Best trails in Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park, Barcelona, Spain

This incredible route in the Barcelona region of Vallés Occidental, takes you to the monastery of Sant Llorenç del Munt. The Monastery of Sant Llorenç del Munt is located on the top of La Mola, the highest mountain in the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park with 1104 meters of altitude. The monastery is in a romantic style, the current building, rebuilt between the late nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries, respects the original structure built in the mid-eleventh century. This makes it a good example of the Catalan religious construction of the Romanesque, being one of the few pure monasteries of this time existing today. In the monastery there is a charming and cozy restaurant called La Mola with very good food. It is open all day only on weekends. It is definitely a good route, with pretty good terrain and incredible views at the top. Do not do with small children, unless they have enough resistance.Show more

There are many routes to take you to the monastery. However, this particular route seems to be the most popular all the way to the top. The first part is quite steep to prepare the hiker for the route. There are a lot of little caves along the whole way. This beautiful route is not one of the busiest in Catalonia and yet it has a very special charm. It starts at the main Mura tourist office and continues on an easy path into the hills, where you begin to leave the town behind. Once at the top you can see the beauty of Mura in the distance. The path leads on the other side to Puig de la Balma. Once you reach Puig de la Balma, the path leads back to La Villa, and then the path that surrounds the path begins to descend to the Riera de Nespres. Leaving the Coll d'Estenalles you ascend directly to Montcau, then descend to the Coll d'Eres, from there you turn off to see the cave of Simanya Gran, return to Coll d'Eres and return to La Mola.Show more

Les Marines is a residence community located along the B-124 just outside the town of Castellar del Valles. This round trip starts at the top end of Les Marines, following the main footpath for about 10 minutes you make a sudden right onto a small track (beware a  small pile of rocks points the way). This track takes you up a steep climb into the woodlands. After about the first 45 minutes you come to the first stop Pedra de l'Àliga. Taking care climbing up to the end point, you get to see an amazing view looking down over Les Marines. Then making you way back down to the main track and following it round to the right you will come to Roca mur. Roc mur (789 m, 40') has a small path leading to the top (20mins), there is also a second part to climb up to the peak if you want. Take great care as you will need to use the ladder built into the rock to climb. Once you are back onto the path and heading further around into the forest, you eventually arrive at Pla de Dalt (Farm house). This is where you need to take a small track down in front of the farm house to a main path at the bottom. Once you are on the main path keep going taking you into the deeper heart of the forest. This is where depending the time of year you well find many wild mushrooms.    Keeping on the path and taking some zigzags paths you eventually come out of the forest, where you will take the last stretch to the end taking you back to where you started.Show more
