This is a fantastic hike, unbelievable countryside, beautiful. However, I would not recommend this as a circular route for a mountain biker. The uphill after the river crossing (Derry Burn) is extremely hard, boggy, narrow and uneven. We used our bikes for approx 20% of the uphill and had to turn round at Derry Bridge (Ford). BTW The bridge is closed! due to flood damage, but we carried our bikes through the river. On the downhill, we took the better path on the other side of the river (east) and that was slightly better.

Great route - reasonably easy to follow with a few route/map checks. Took us 6hrs including a little lunch stop at the top. A bit cloudy to start but luckily that cleared so we had great views! A short section to the summit involves walking over rocks/no footpath. We went clockwise, the initial climb was quite a warm up! Definitely recommend but bare in mind it’s pretty tough.

Great hike with challenging rock elevations at times. Misty and foggy but still captured amazing views when it cleared up

Great hike, we followed the direction given in the map. We were fortunate enough to get a clear day/night with stunning views and no wind. We camped at the summit of Cairn Bannoch where we caught an excellent sunset and sunrise. The Broad Cairn offered stunning views well above the clouds in the morning sun also. Would highly recommend, paths are fairly visible and easy to follow.

Nice easy walk around a couple of lakes, with potential deer sightings. Plenty of heather and ferns. Main trail very well maintained. Nice forest views.

Brilliant walk however i’d advise to follow the directional route shown as i decided to go the opposite way round the loop and seriously regretted it
