amazing hike from the linn of dee really enjoyed this one

Absolutely wonderful place to go for hiking! In my opinion is the best place to go in Aberdeenshire if you like hiking and you wish to see an amazing Scottish scenery.

The AllTrails map above shows the 50 mile version. If you follow the trail signage you will complete the entire 64 miles of this trail. I did this in 3 days and like most trails it has its positives and negatives. Positive: *little towns along the way to stop off and get refreshments. It’s like to be able to not have trail food for every meal. *it is very well signed that you can easily follow along *not a lot of other hikers Con *lots of rain so a good portion of the trail was very wet and boggy *lots of pasture hiking which means animal poo to avoid on every step. *more road walking than I prefer. It’s a nice trail with very manageable hills that gives you a good sense of the countryside.

Trail is in great condition. Most boggy areas have dried up. Approach to Loch Avon is not very suitable to cycle. Our descent off Ben Mc Dui followed a very steep course which crossed numerous bolder fields and was off trail until the valley floor. Possibly unsuitable for dogs or people unsure of foot. Overall an excellent walk. In summer there is no shade so take appropriate care. Lots of wildlife to be spotted en route.

A good route to include a night by the Loch. The entire route follows a good path except for the descent to loch Dubh which is off trail down a steep slope which impedes progress. Excellent views and a large amount of wildlife about.

Did this as part of the "Cateran Yomp" 54 miles in 24 hours. Fantastic scenery, well signposted and would be nice to do iced a few days rather az an endurance march. Beautiful.prt of the world.

Amazing but bare in mind, you’ll be climbing over some rocks, it’s deemed as ‘hard trail’ for a reason

enjoyable walk for those with good fitness. paths are easily visible apart from snow coverage here and there. Great for wildlife if time is taken to look for it.

great walk, easier now with path most the way till the boulders. Also another path in through the Balmoral Estate. Think it is still usable which takes you to the Loch for the climb up.

A lovely ski tour or a slightly dull hike. To make the walk a 5* day add in Fiacaill Ridge on the approach.
