Steep climb up to the top on gravel and fast downhill across grass trails. Would recommend making a slight detour up to one of the peaks for a some great scenery.

Starts out with 2 steep hills which give some great views, and then the second half is mostly flat along some reservoirs. Nice walk

the classic trail along the tops in the Pentland Hills, starting at Swanston Village (173m) and ending at Nine Mile Burn (275m), where there is a bus stop. On this occasion we had a coffee break at Flotterstone (196m). The trail goes over Allermuir Hill (493m), Turnhouse Hill (506m), Carnethy Hill (573m), Scald Law (579m), East Kip (534m) and West Kip (551m) before decending to Nine Mile Burn (275m). Ascent is about 970m and descent about 870m. This is part of the Pentlands Path and is sign posted. The path is rough underfoot with two short sections on metalled road (at Flotterstone and at Nine Mile Burn). Including breaks it took us about 7 hours walking. There are two historic sites immediately adjacent to the trail: Castle Law, a stone age settlement and Rullion Green, the site of the Battle of Rullion Green 28 November 1666.

Great trail run or hike with lots of elevation gain. From multiple vantages you can see the surrounding countryside and beautiful lakes.

When you pass the stone stile and gate, and it says "Take the path to the left up and over Harbour Hill", you pass through another gate at this point - you're almost turning back on yourself.

Amazing run up scald law, south black hill, east and west kip will try adding carnethy hill and turn house next time running from opposite way parking at redmoss

Used to cycle this route when living in Edinburgh - great exercise and great steps gradients to get the legs burning....

Not sure it ‘features a lake’! There is one lake in Scotland and it’s not in the Pentlands.

Nice walk. Only down side is that the last third is on a concrete road and not on soil

Not a lake! A reservoir!!

Great walk. Rubbish description!! I do this walk regularly. . But, it not Staffordshire!!! It’s Midlothian. And there are no lakes there. There are reservoirs.
