We hiked this trail 2 weeks ago (April 27, 2018) to the top of El Toro peak but did not continue the Tradewinds trail due to weather at the peak (the El Toro peak is about 2.3 miles along and Fitbit tracked at 172 floors elevation climb). The trail started off dry in the lower treeline, then turned muddy about 1/2 way up the trail. Still fairly easy to navigate with the rocks, branches and the sides of the trail. A good vigorous workout, especially the last 1000 feet which was a steep stone staircase climb to the summit. We encountered rain and high winds at the peak so we did not get to see the view ... but the cloud layers in the high winds that day were whipping the clouds spectacularly over the peak like in an airplane! It's evident the canopy and tree damage from the hurricane Irma, and we were told the Tradewinds Trail had not yet been cleared for hiking as of May 2018. The El Toro trail had been cleared in the past few months, but only to the peak. Wear good hiking shoes, prepare for mud and make sure you have enough water to keep hydrated.

Beautiful forest, fairytale hike. Few great views on the way. Not very difficult. Come early so you won't have problems with parking spot.

Short and sweet. Waterhole at the end.

Short but pretty. Lots of small animals (lizards, birds, snails). The second half was closed due to floods washing out the bridge and swimming was not recommended because of flash flooding.

Amazing Hike,❤

Hiked this trail back in Spring 2017. The Mina falls is very trafficked and there were a lot of people. Climate of course was humid and hot. Is a short trail that has a river alongside most of it. Found it easy since many families with children were hiking as well. The waterfall is beautiful, was not able to dip into since i did not have swimming suit but a lot of people were playing in the water. I started hiking in running shoes but once we got there I changed to water sandals which I STRONGLY recommend if you want to walk through the rocks and eventually jump in.

Did this hike with my wife on a mini-vacation from a conference. The rain came down in buckets, but it was still amazing. The waterfall was kicking with all of the rain. Slippery when wet!

My husband and I loved hiking this trail on our trip to Puerto Rico. It was beautiful! The foliage and sounds of running water made it a breathtaking experience.

Much less crowded than other hikes in the area, likely due to it being somewhat more challenging. Beautiful view overlooking the entire rainforest.

Moderate hike in with beautiful rainforest views. La Mina Falls was beautiful but very crowded.

Was expecting to see more flora and animals through the forest, but still very enjoyable hike. We arrived early (~8-9) to avoid tourist traffic!

When hiking El Yunque there you can see Los Picachos, El Yunque Peak, Roca El Yunque Rock, and Mt. Button Tower in a 5.5 mile hike. Park at Palo Colorado where there is a small information/gift shop and bathrooms. Walk up to Baño Grande and see that. You'll see the El Yunque trail to the right and take it all the way up ~2 miles to the Los Picachos trail which is the first trail to your right. It's only .7 miles to Los Picachos and well worth seeing the view. Then go back and take your next right to Roca El Yunque and El Yunque Peak...It is very windy so watch your hat! After El Yunque hike the service road down to Mt. Button which will be your second left, then backtrack to the spur trail to go back down to Palp Colorado.

Excelente sendero. Lo mejor es el final. Nos tardamos 38 minutos en bajar y 30 en virar. La cascada la mina es espectacular. Se siente mucha paz.

So worth it. This hike can be hard if you're not use to change in elevation, tons of humidity, climbing, heat, etc. But it's short and if you take it easy I'm pretty confident most can accomplish and enjoy the beautiful waterfall! It gets busy. Swimming in the waterfall is awesome!

Tough trail. I would rate this as a difficult trail rather than moderate. Wear good waterproof hiking boots! You will cross wide streams and walk through lots of deep squishy mud and slippery rocks/roots. Trail is well marked and end of trail is rewarding with river pools to swim in. Bring swimwear and lots of water to stay hydrated! Trail head says it's 1.8mi/1.5hr. Took us about 3.5hr to hike out and back.

I did this hike May 13th. I live in Florida so these are the closest mountains for me to get to easily. We went on a long weekend and I love hiking so any chance to get some elevation for hiking (Florida is flat) and I'm game. It's not Hawai'i or Colorado, but La Mina Falls hike was very cool.
I was disappointed with the lack of information about Hiking in PR. The drive up was fine. The road was well maintained, but there were a few narrow spots so beware or go on on if the many guided tours.
The friend I traveled with had never hiked so we tried to take well worn trails.
The hike to La Mina Falls was mostly paved with a 2ft wide path. It was fairly easy in hiking shoes and well maintained.
When we got to the falls my friend went swimming, as were a lot of locals. It seems to be a popular swimming spot. Note to self, wear a swim suit under my hiking shorts next time lol. The water was cold and the rocks surrounding the Falls were not too slippery.
After swimming/wadding, we noticed several people easily hiking off trail below us, actually they were barefoot so we decided to check out the other smaller falls downhill.
I love going off the beaten path, so this was fun and not too difficult to boulder. It took us away from the 30 or so people who were swimming in La Mina by noon.
Overall, for hiking this was fun and relatively close. Plus, you don't need a passport for Puerto Rico!
I would definitely include hiking if I was going to PR.
We wish we had time to climb MT Britton, but by noon it was raining at higher altitude and I decided not to go into uncharted territory in the rain with a novice hiker.
There is always next time!

It was lovely. On a hot day you can jump in and cool down. Also a great location to take pictures under the waterfall.

Did this hike back on Feb 2016 trail was a little bit wet and slippery. It would be considered easy doable in regular shoes and clothes. There were a few waterfalls which were beautiful but a bit crowded. You can also swim under the La mina waterfall.

The falls were nice but too crowded so we just hiked up river.

I actually got a little winded on this one. Loved it though!!!! The tower is so picturesque. If you are ever visiting PR this trail is a must.

The Falls were great! I was too busy watching my step that I missed gawking at the rainforest. Obviously a very popular spot, would definitely try to go much earlier if I get another chance!

Beautiful hike and well maintained trail. Took about one hour round trip not including the time spent at the Mina falls. If possible, start the hike as early in the day as possible as the trail gets really crowded and it is a single track trail.

It's a easy compared to the other. Very different feel to it. Good hike.
