#1 - Ponta de São Lourenço
Ponta de Sao Lourenco Special Conservation ZoneLength: 4.6 mi • Est. 1 h 51 m
This is one of the better walks in Madeira. The extreme eastern tip of the island consists of a long, extensive peninsula called Ponta de São Lourenço. In the winter months this is overgrown with moss but in the summer everything is completely dry. The path has some steep climbs, especially the climb to the viewpoint after you have passed the Casa da Sardinha. But your effort is ultimately rewarded with a fantastic view of the Atlantic Ocean. The way back takes almost the same path and takes about the same amount of time.
