Would recommend starting this hike earlier in the day, and give yourself a safe 8 hours depending on your physical capability. Definitely a challenge — lots of scoria and bouldering especially at the last stretch of the trail to the peak. Incredible view though and 1000% worth the sweat and toil. One of my favorite hikes in NZ, and even caught a beautiful sunset on the way down too!

Amazing views. Just have to brace for the staurs. There are a lot of it. Best day walk after Tongariro Crossing. Less walkers which is good. The day can be very hot unlike Tongariro so prepare well.

Stairs, Scrambles, scree and steep concrete to tire you early. Please dont under estimate this hike. This is possibly New Zealands toughest day hike. I saw far too many people under prepared up there. Weather systems can appear really quickly and you won't have time to escape them. But it's well worth the view if you are fit enough to do it. Please respect local Mauri beliefs as the top is holy for them.

This is a very hard trail, start early and be prepared! Well worth it on a clear day!

Quite challenging with the steep stairs to begin, than sliding sand, after that climbing and eventually snow and ice. To go up there is one thing, but going down something else.
Though the view is incredible! Outstanding! We could even see the southern Alps

little interest for this walk in the forest, no view, only steps, some very high that are not very safe for the knees

An amazing short hike. So beautiful on a clear day!

This track leads to spectacular views of Mt Taranaki and beautiful alpine scenery. Lots of interesting alpine plants and temperate rainforest to see along the way. In days gone by this track was very wet underfoot and on occasions was the equivalent of walking up a stream on wet days. It has now been more or less completely covered with boards so is an easy walk up to the Hut. Unfortunately this has now resulted in a huge increase in visitors. One to avoid if you are after some solitude

We did this walk by starting up the puffer track to the lookout, then back via the Veronica loop. Nice walk, not completely maintained. Good for a short walk (40mins)

So beautiful, make sure you hike up beside the pools, it gets more magical the higher you climb, go for a dip too :)

a great track full of amazing views....

It’s hard but I highly recommend that. The view is amazing, unforgettable!!!

Loved! It’s a beautiful hike and the trail is...interesting. They aren’t joking when they say it isn’t maintained. The forest is taking over that one fore sure.

Amazing track to walk/run along

Fun track, at the top end of the loop divert up for another 15mins to get to the viewing point.

Excellent short circuit to some pristine running pools with a great view of the region from said pools. Really beautiful especially the sounds and the running creeks on the way back down. Be careful at the pools themselves as the rocks are quite slippery and their is no stairs/handrails.

It was not quite what I was expecting, the bush was really thick and the bugs were swarming us the whole time. It probably would have been fine, but we had our 8 month old baby strapped on and she was unhappy about it. We ended up turning around mid way and coming back. Would have been cool to make it to the top, but it just wasn’t the Hike for us
