I did this trail today with my parents (both in their late 50s). We took the “shorter” trail opting for the Lake Wanaka lookout and turning back as opposed to the full loop. It was perfect and I would have liked to do this full thing. He trail was very well kept and easy to follow. The views along the way to Diamond Lake (which is a very quick walk) and beyond we’re breathtaking. This was the hike suggested by every local we encountered and it’s the one I would suggest to friends in the future. Even though we didn’t think it was possible at the time we all ended up a little sunburnt so plan for that!

What a cool little hike... not the hardest but the views at the top are amazing. Wasn’t busy at all and we had the top to ourselves at around 10am.. we were up and down in around 2h.Definitely need to take a couple areas slow but as far as the reward it was perfect!

Incredible hike! Long rough drive to the car park but with beautiful views along the way. Hike follows a gorge filled with milky blue water to amazing glacier and waterfall views. We got so lucky with blue skies too. Highly recommend.

Very steep all the way up but worth the view.

Great walk- both the journey and destination was great. The stairs at the beginning were the hardest part, but after that it was fine with spectacular views

worth getting to the start of the hike for the beautiful scenery and valley alone. we crossed 10 fords with our economy sized car just go slow and pick out the shallow areas. agreed that upper falls is a must- even if you don't make it all the way to the top there are sights to see along the way. Theres a bathroom at the top. We are very very slow hikers and started at 4:30p and got down by 8:30p sunset by rushing on the way down (1.5hrs)

Fantastic views at the saddle on a clear day. Very tough when raining hard. My wife and I completed this in 2 days at a moderate pace with 65l packs carrying 25 lbs and 35 lbs. We went from routeburn shelter to mackenzie, the to divide on day 2. Trackhopper (a company that moves your car for you and even fills up your gas, needed in such a remote part of the island) was amazing and on time and well-worth the service. We were able to seamlessly continue our vacation to Milford sound directly after.

Amazing beautiful walk. The road to the start of the trail is gravel track so allow extra time for this. The car park was also full by 12pm so I would head there early. The view of the glacier is breathtaking and has lots of waterfalls coming down. This walk is an absolute must do. The walk isn’t too tough either there are some uphill climbs but is separated with flat parts to making it easier. Path is easy to follow and marked out.

Easy track, incredible blue water at the pools. Good for swimming.

A good hike. You have to go through the river at the beginning and then it just go straight up by the tree. When you pass that you still have 30 minutes to go to the hut.
The view from up there is great. In the middle with all the mountains.

Very first bit of the trail to the lake is the steepest but still doable with a pushchair (once you’ve lifted it over the stile at the bottom). Gentle incline from the first bend on, then flat around the lake circuit. We left the pushchair and went up to the lookout with baby in a sling: stunning view and worth the 250steps! That part is mostly shaded though

This trail is well maintained and worth every step of the slow climb up to the top. Don’t miss it!

great track. pays to have decent boots as there is a lot of loose rock. bring warm clothing, ground temperature is much warmer than at the top of the track so have an extra layer.
for getting there, perhaps use a 4WD, there are a few fords and 30km of unsealed road that your rental toyota won't enjoy.
go early, track is empty in the morning.

A beast of a hike! Easy to follow trail but a grind from bottom to top. Can be done with runners. Spectacular views from the peak and from the lookout. Lots of sheep to share the trails and views with.

Great hike!
I started from Greenstone car park and hiked the Caples track on day 1 and camped at the free campsite Greenstone saddle in order to complete the Routeburn the next day. With my backpack (tent, sleeping bag, food,...) without running I was able to complete the hike in 10 hours (with a good pace but took time for lunch and jumping in the river).

Easy Walk we a amazing view.

Lovely relatively easy hike into a valley with a fantastic breath taking view of Rob Roys glacier and waterfalls. For the adventurous there is a bit more path, not as well discernable beyond the point where most people stop to soak up the stunning surroundings. I loved the abundance of yellow flowers. Definetly rewarding.

Fantastic tramp. Personally I found the steep bit's challenging, both up and down, but one foot after the other and you get there.

We took 3 days, 2 nights - staying at The Falls Hut, and MacKenzie Hut. The lake here is very cold but after a long days walk is inviting: pure and clean. A great way to wash away the tiredness, sweat and dust.

I would call this a moderate hike with some scrambling over rocks. It is a lot of uphill, with some muddy areas. But I am not complaining – it was the best hike I have ever done - so much bang for the buck! We drove after heavy rains that night, but our Toyota Camry was fine at the 7 fords - we angled our crossings to the shallower parts. The farmlands leading to the track were lovely – we watched sheep being herded far in the distance from high up on the trail. The views keep getting better and better until you can’t believe how beautiful it is at the top. Do not stop at the lower viewpoint. Go to the top. It’s worth it. Bring a liter of water per person and stop at Subway sandwiches in Wanaka for a trail lunch at the lower viewpoint. By the way, a reviewer mentioned dogs - no dogs allowed!

Un sentier très accessible et joli que nous avons fait en 2h aller, sans marcher trop vite. A walk day fun!
