This beautiful dune trail takes you from Scheveningen through Katwijk to Noordwijk aan Zee. It is obvious the water companies use the dunes. You will find pumping stations, canals and lakes. No water is extracted from the dunes. They are used as a water filter. The entire dune area has been seriously damaged by the Germans. Especially in this area you will come across many bunkers and remains of the Atlantic Wall, a coastal defense line of 2700km that runs from north to south. In the middle of the dunes you will find a complete wall over which you can walk a few hundred meters. The Waalsdorpvlakte is a reminder of the 250 dead who were executed here. Walking through the dunes you will see a golden dome towards Katwijk. Here is the only Sufi temple in the world. At the beginning of the last century, an Indian singer decided to found the Sufi movement, which brings all religions together into a teaching that has a universal god. Christianity and Islam are, as it were, united in it. It is interesting to see how such a temple (1972) has been able to nestle in the originally Christian community of the Katwijkers.Show more

Meijendel is a unique dune area and part of the National Park Hollandse Duinen. The landscape is constantly changing, because the wind moves the sand from the dunes and because of the use of humans. The area is an important water extraction area. The closer you get to the beach, the lower the vegetation becomes.Show more

This varied trail runs through the Haagsche Bosch (The Hague Forest), past Huis ten Bosch and over the Clingendael estate to the dunes of Meijendel. The Haagsche Bosch, also known as "the green lung", connects The Hague and Wassenaar. Palace Huis ten Bosch is in the park. It has been a public park since 1954. There are several gardens in the forest, including a Japanese (open from June to October) and an old Dutch one. Meijendel is a young dune area. The dunes formed around the year 1000. Since the area was not suitable for agriculture, it has largely been able to take its natural course.Show more

The Hague is one of the greenest cities in the Netherlands. This walking trail takes you past the most beautiful nature spots that the city has to offer - from the forest paths of the Haagse Bos, to Landgoed Clingendael with wide paths and stately home, through the dune area of Meijendel back into the woods, but this time the Scheveningse Bosjes.Show more
