Description
Towada-Hachimantai National Park (十和田八幡平国立公園) is known to be absolutely beautiful during the whole year. This park features lakes and steaming hot springs nestled in ancient volcanoes and snow covered mountains. During the spring, visitors can expect to see alpine flowers on mountain slopes and lush green leaves in the woodlands. If going in the fall, the colors of the trees become a magnificent sight in the park. Towada-Hachimantai is known to be an inspiration to stories and spirituality, visitors can check out the pilgrimage routes, shrines, and hear about the folk tales that was created from this park. Towada-Hachimantai is also home to Oirase Gorge, Hakkoda mountains, Lake Towada (a good place for a cruise and sightseeing), and Nyuto Onsen, a mountain hot spring. Additionally, during the winter, visitors can snowboard and ski down the slopes.

Lake Towada - Oirase Gorge - Matsumi Falls (十和田湖 - 奥入瀬渓流 - 松見の滝)
This route is actually a combination of two promenades. One goes to the Oirase Gorge and the other to Matsumi Falls. As you can see on the route, the first day can be stopped at the Oirase Gorge inn. You can also shorten a portion of the route, or even follow this route completely with a 2-day plan.
The Oirase Gorge is a special scenic spot and has been designated as a national monument and is protected by the national government. There are many attractions such as waterfalls, clear streams and rocks. The contrast between the deep moss-green forest and the various waterfalls created Towada Hachimantai National Park and one of the most scenic spots representing Japan.
This trail is a wonderful road and has many seasonal scenic spots. It's also convenient to take a bus to any part of the trail. Spend ample time in Towada and enjoy a wonderful experience.Show more
