Moderate difficulty trail, with the best views in Glendalough.

Hiking

Great trail. Hard-going and very wet ground in parts (even in August). Path is not obvious in many parts, so following the trail on the app was essential. Really beautiful views, lakes, waterfalls, rivers... Absolutely NOT dog friendly: farmers sign on Loughnaquila says "Operational Sheep Farm - Dogs will be shot dead - no exceptions". And anyway, would be very difficult terrain for majority of dogs. Glenmalure Lodge nearby is strongly recommended for food/drink after the hike.

Lovely trail with a clear path and pleasant nature views all the way down to the lake. Hiked in March and had a lovely day for it. Would have gone further up along the lake but I wore runners that day and needed boots for the marshy ground to keep going. Spotted loads of frog spawn too. Lots to see. Would go back.

Some steep sections that brought out my fear of heights but worth it for the views towards and at the top. Hiked it in the summer in a pair of runners, but would recommend boots if going off trail by the lake edge and even just for general sturdiness under foot. Have heard of cars being broken into so best keep valuables out of sight to deter.

Hiked this one starting at Laragh and was a real stunner! As previous reviewers, noted, this is an easy hike but does have sections at an incline so you do work up a sweat Fabulous views the whole time--Wicklow Mountains on one side and the Irish sea on the other. Make sure to bring layers of clothes as it gets very windy and chilly at the summit.

For experienced hikers only. Very long hike. From Tomaneena to Lugduff no visible track only very mucky and wet bogs. Very exhausting when wet. You need Alltrack app with gps and offline maps+ printed backup maps.

Beautiful trail - not too challenging but works up a bit of a sweat. All paths clearly marked so easy to navigate. Led through a lovely forest at beginning and views at the summit are amazing.

Great views and a lovely walk. Easy for an experienced hiker but I wouldn’t describe as easy for everyone - steep sections, parts through scrub and sections close to the hill edge. Not suitable for children or those afraid of heights! Lovely soft ground underfoot. Muddy in sections but easily passable.

This first half of the trail is fabulous with great views over the valley on either side. However, I wouldn’t recommend the second half (off trail) section. It involves a steep rocky descent which requires scrambling and is quite precarious in places unless you’re experienced (and isn’t even rewarded by a particularly different view etc). Much better to extend the walk slightly and stick to the trail.

More than half of the trail is a boardwalk now so I would categorize it as easy rather than moderate. Yes, there's a rocky/pebbly bit still but it doesn't require any hiking shoes/boots at all. Runners/sneakers are good enough. Great walk overall. Very scenic route.

HikingMuddyOff trail

There are a lot of sections off trail with no clear markings. It’s very boggy and the second part it’s quite steep. Overall a nice experience but not for beginners with no proper equipment and understanding of how to navigate bog. Not advisable unless the terrain is dry.
