Great hike great day in Lantau w/Erich Pfanzelt

Decidedly more difficult than expected. Once you start the decent into Discovery Bay, the path is very, very steep and with a bit of rain, could be very slippery. We saw one person crawling down on their bum, while we also saw someone with their dog run down. So I would say go slowly unless you are very familiar with the trail. Otherwise, very pleasant walk if you have 3-4 hours!

This is a favourite hike for my family. It is fairly easy only a few steep parts. Harder to do when the weather is extremely hot and humid. Lots of stairs on the decent to MW. My knees begin to hurt half way down. But overall a lovely hike!

Amazing trail! Incredible views! Great little villages between the first climb and the second climb (especially Pak Mong village, where you can get a cold drink from the little cafe, which someone will be able to point you to). This trail is of ADVANCED DIFFICULTY!! Do not attempt this trail alone or in the summer heat. Bring a lot more water than you think you’ll need. You will drink it all.

The trail you will find here doesn’t actually arrive to the very top of Lin Fa Shan, Sunset Peak and Lantau Peak but the trail is very easy to find. I went on top of all 3 the peaks and the view are just stunning. It’s a long hike and deserves respect, be well prepared with a lot of water and proper hiking gear. MOST IMPORTANTLY PLEASE DO NOT LITTER THIS BEAUTIFUL ENVIRONMENT PLEEEEEASE!!!!

Trail is easy. I hiked with few children, my 3 years old on a light stroller. We carried it when there were steps. Not clearly marked at the beginning thru the beach and village at DB. The view on top of hill is excellent. Monastery is beautiful. You can also attend daily mass 7am, none 2pm, vespers 5:20pm if you are catholic. Sunday mass 10:30am and Benediction 7:20pm. Monks and Sisters are still living there.

This is a great hike, though I did it in reverse from disco to tung Chung. I think I would do it the other way next time though as the MTR ride back to central isn’t nearly as relaxing as the ferry ride from Disco Bay to central. Although, getting the steepest part done first and spending the last 2 thirds going down hill to Tung Chung was nice. The stretch from Tung Chung MTR to the trail head is on he sea wall, between the airport and the MTR line and there’s not a bit of shade. There are lots of Go Bee bikes around though, so you could potentially rent one and bike that bit. Setup the app first tho and be prepared for a $400 hkd deposit plus however much credit you want to load, if you haven’t used GoBee bikes before Otherwise bring an umbrella and sunscreen. Gear: sun screen, umbrella, lots of water, trekking poles with hard tips attached for hard packed dirt, if you have them, Lunch or a large snack.

We do this hike quite often. Not sure what's about the category - this should be noted as moderate, in my view. Especially the first 2km from DB to Tiger Head is quite steep and challenging. Most of the photos linked to this hike are actually from the shorter trail via the Monastery... (only 6km).

Beautiful views!

Started the trail near Tung Chung. The first mile is very steep with tall stone stairs that go straight up the mountain side without and flat portions. Even though shaded, doing this in the middle of a summer day forced me to take many breaks. After the first mile the slope mellows out a bit and the air cools off as you gain elevation. Once on top, the views make the climb all worth it. Once on the other side, there is a bus stop and ferry to get back to Hong Kong, very convenient. Beautiful trail!
