A fun hike up. Unfortunately the summit was clouded in. The path was pretty muddy and it made the way down from K2 messy and challenging.

It was a nice hike but got really steep at the top, so much so that my in-laws turned back. There’s an awesome bamboo forest at the top, which gives you lots to grab on to at the hardest point. Really pretty hiking through the trees. Enjoyed it a lot and it didn’t take too long.

If you’re looking for a short, fairly easy hike and you want a awesome view then this is the trail for you! There are several trails that intersect inside so you have to be careful not to get lost. Beautiful view of Waikiki and diamond head. We did this with littles and they had no issues.

The trail to the summit can be accessed via a number of trails in the Na Ala Hele system https://hawaiitrails.hawaii.gov/trails/#/
I started on Round Top Drive where there is good parking. There are 2 trailheads there. N 21 19.546 W 157 48.787

I took Manoa Cliff Trail connected with Pauoa Flats Trail and took it to the end which is a cliff. The Konahuanui trail heads up to the right from there.

I did not reach the top as the peak was in the clouds and the wind and rain were an issue when the trail rounded to face windward.
There are 2 "tracks" on the All Trails map, and indeed I found a trail that went around the mountain (often pretty sidehill vertical and muddy) AND another going steeply up to meet and follow the ridge line in more usual Hawaii trail fashion.
The fork is at N 21 20.700 W 157 48.2923 and is perhaps 1.25 miles from the peak per All Trails.

The beginning of the hike is forest, rain forest, and bamboo in the valley. After 2 miles you are in the brush and trees on mountain.
My trek was 6.2 miles including the backtracking to explore both forks. I'll stay right for the ridge peak trail next time and I'm sure I'll comeback muddy and happy again. Spikes and long pants were very helpful for me, but I crossed paths with a barefooted hiker up on the side slope.

Very nice trail with nice rainforest jungle vibe. A few spillways, some creek crossing, and mongoose around. We detoured around the 'Ualaka'a loop with a nice view of Diamond head. Very nice people on the trail. We started going left, which I liked.

Saw no one else on the trail besides a couple groups of baby boars, birds and a mouse. It was nice to get outdoors and explore some wildlife.

Highly recommend, the trail to the falls is moderate at best. Was raining at the time, don't be the guy in white pants and flip flops. This trail gets difficult soon after turning off the main falls trail, I would call this part difficult with many cliff edge encounters, ropes to keep you on the side. Tons of mud and slippery rock faces. Not much of the high scenery but there were a few good shots!

Trail was extremely dry when I hiked it yesterday, starting from Judd, then to Nuuanu, up the ridge, to Pauoa Flats, down Aihualama and out of Manoa Falls Trail. So weird to see Manoa Falls Trail so dry.

The trail can be quite confusing at times especially from the beginning in the cook pines area. There are several offshoots leading to nowhere. Proper signage should be installed more frequently to guide the way , esp for those who has never done this before.

Moderate hike to a lookout over the Pali Valley. Not too hard. Beautiful forest on the way. Recommended.

Overall very demanding hike... goes up for soooooo long. Took the wrong way to begin with and went up such a steep trail forever and took away all my energy.... I’m an experienced hiker and this was difficult. Overall an ok hike, ok views, ok trail. There are better hikes to do on Oahu but still glad I did it! Bring water, lots.

the drive itself to the trailhead was pretty. the trail has views along the way of diamond head, and goes through a bamboo forest which was cool. it was completely dry when we went 4/3/19. a beginner hiker and small dog made it up and back easily in an hour.

If you want a trail within this system with a view, take Nahuina from Maunalaha or Kanealole. Look for the junction to connect to Nahuina. It will take you to top of tantalus road with views. The junction is where Kanealole and Makiki valley sign junction is. Turn up to connect to Nahuina.

Its more like a connector trail from Makiki Valley to Top of Tantalus. From the end of Nahuina Trail on the Round Top Drive, walk a little further up to get to Kalawahine Trail head.

we couldn't find a entrance so started from Making vally trail. it's just nice incline and down, forest view, easy hike. found out the entrance was just behind the guardrail with the sign lol. there is a small parking spot near by too.

Took 2 hours to reach the summit of K2 today. another 30 min to cross the saddle and reach K1. The saddle was very technical and muddy but totally worth the view. This hike would be really rough if raining or wet. Spent an hour on summit and another 3 hours to get back down. More like 9 miles total if going all the way to K1. Awesome views all around one of my top hikes on island.

great hike but even though i made a wrong turn. i dont believe all trails distances are correct. i have a garmen fenix 5x and it tracked almost 11 miles

This is a great casual hike. It's more on the easy side of moderate. I loved how it wasn't muddy. We took the Kanealole side up, which was a good idea. The Maunalaha side is more steep with roots, which I thought was better going down at the end versus straight up in the beginning. It took us 1 hr 45 mins. Lush foliage, lots of bird, mostly shaded, and a constant sound of small waterfalls nearby. There were a couple open views of the ocean, too. Overall, a lush, quiet sanctuary right near Waikiki.

This trail offers a pretty waterfall that goes through a bamboo forest. Forgot to turn the gps off before going to my favorite breakfast place Sweet E’s

Tough climb at the beginning but, as long as you’re cautious, great workout with a nice view at the end.

Very nice workout today. Steepness of the trail helps it to drain well so it was not nearly as muddy as yesterday’s trail. Only had a few slick spots where streams cross the trail. Great nature hike. Two small areas where you get view of downtown Honolulu. Met people of all age ranges on the trail. Would definitely do again

This hike was worth the time we got lost and ended up on a side trial which was much better then the actual trail. It is very muddy and if it has rain recently the path to the trail is underwater

Great trail!! Would not recommend for small children, there are some steep parts and narrow areas close to ledges. There are a couple streams closer to the end of the trail and you can get a great view of Honolulu from the ridge.
