Such a great trail. Ran the majority of it with my dog and friend. Challenging uphill portions with beautiful views of the trees and water. Exposed roots and some fallen trees are also something to be cautious of. Will totally do this again!!

This hike took about 2.5 hours to complete at a casual pace. Slick after rain, pay attention to the roots and fallen trees so you don’t slip. A few decent views of the shoreline, but 80% of the time you are in the thick of the jungle or on the road. If you go clock-wise (which I would recommend as someone else in the thread suggested), the second half of the hike will be on a paved / gravel road. There were a few little trails that you’ll find on the hike that lead to some nice views, but watch your footing. Maybe try going during a weekend when there are more people around to avoid a break-in - there was glass on the ground next to a few cars suggesting previous break-ins. (We only noticed that on the way back or else we might have decided to go elsewhere.) In my opinion, the island of Oahu offers much better hikes.

a short hike, steep at first but well-shaded all the way. great morning hike, good for kids (8+).

It was ok. Not that difficult, definitely some uphill but very doable. Vistas were just ok.

Great trail, it’s an uphill battle at first with lots of stairs but once you get to the top it levels out. Nice view from the pillbox and the Loop was fairly level with small hills. The pine needles on the ground made for great cushioning and easy on the feet. I’d definitely do this again...

Just went to the top, fairly uphill but pretty. Looks like it’s flat once up.

First half of the hike was a nice, navigable trail with great foliage and shade. Second half was on an old, closed-down paved road. A great trail for dogs and families. We didn’t see anyone else on the trail, except the first/last half mile.

2.5 hr hike. Be sure to take the offshoot trails you see from time to time. They lead to nice views of the Canopy. Half of the trail is a dirt road or abandoned paved road. Sections of the paved road have eroded down the mountain so be cautious. Used 500ml water but I would advise bringing a liter.

KILLER TRAIN RUNNING BROS!!! Ah man!!! DEATH TO the designated path! I blasted through on the paved road for about 3 miles past the trail for some incredible scents and descents oh man! Not a soul past the trail, there is so much beauty in solitude and presence. DO IT TEAM!

Dangerous and not a great hike to take on. Poor view compared to crouching lion and other hikes on the north east side. Would not recommend

Wouldn't rave about this one, was an okay hike, heavy traffic throughout with people walking their dogs etc. Is more of a Sunday outing kind of walk. The first mile is the hardest, once you are up the hill it's easy going. Wouldn't say it's a loop, more of an out and back trail. Good exercise before a dip in the ocean!

FUN HIKE YA!!!! Pretty fun! Ran this gift pretty quick, definitely go venture beyond to find the second pull box. Not really a loop, more of an out and back. Didn’t need water, JUST THIS BOOTY!!! Get it team!!!

Alright. This is a great trail and all, but if you’re looking for something to get you back into hiking. Try a different one. It is steep and definitely not the best for first timers.

track more into mountain biking. Easy and relaxing stroll through the Forrest. A bit boring on foot

Fun hour hike! Hardly anyone on the trail and I did this Saturday afternoon. Most of the climbing is in the first half of the trail and evens out for the most part afterwards- good for trail running at that point. Make sure you go to the second pillbox! The views are fantastic of the north shore. Check out my photos on Instagram @therejuvenatedrunner!

Started around 0800 and encountered 12 people during the whole trek, including 3 mountain bikers and 3 dirt bikers. Parking for this trail is outside of the Camp Pupukea parking lot and the trail head is up the dirt road next to the Pupukea parking lot. We made the mistake of following the dirt road for too long and missed the trail marker for Kaunala so the recording is longer than it should be. The rest of the trail was in the forest which had some muddy spots here and there but nothing crazy. The trail is a little narrow in some areas with the foliage starting to grow in but the path is still visible for the most part. Overall it’s a relatively shaded trek with some nice views!

Extremely overgrown. Nice view from the summit, but it’s not worth it. If you choose to do this trail, wear pants and bring a machete. Most of it isn’t even a real trail, just walking through tall grass and bushes.
