Very easy start and then gets a bit difficult on a hot day with the stairs-would recommend taking your time, bring plenty of water and pace yourself if you're going in the summer! The view are completely worth it though!

All time favorite ridge hike on Oahu so far! 3.5 hours on a sunny day. 4++ hours on a rainy day. Amazing view on almost the entire hike...ocean, mountain, trees, valleys..Hiking shoes, water, water, water & snack

Too many switchbacks in the beginning. Stairs, stairs, stairs after forest/picnic area. Beautiful view on a sunny day.

6/16/2019-Got a usual early start at 0730 and encountered 35 groups/solo hikers (most people seem to start the hike around 0900 which is a little too hot already for me). No rain in the area lately thankfully so no mud to deal with to the top and back. There was some cloud cover and not much wind on the switchbacks but at least there was a good breeze at the end and an awesome view too!

Awesome trail! Beautiful views at the top. Some strenuous area for someone who’s out of shape like me but worth it. Definitely trying this hike again.

Awesome hike! The stairs at the end are a bit brutal but the views are definitely worth it on a clear day. The ironwood needles are pretty slippery, be careful on the way down. Please stay on the trail, and if you bring your dog keep them under your complete control the entire time. Mahalo!

super treck. have top.

Fantastic view when clear. This is the second time I've done this hike and got more lucky with the weather this time. Trail was bone dry which made the tree roots less slippery. Steps are steep at the top but are well maintained. Can get a bit crowded by late morning, but everyone so far has been hiking with Aloha which is great.

great trail.....great view from the top...

This is a very challenging hike, but amazing views. My wife and I both got heat exhaustion from hiking Hawaii Loa, so my recommendation is to hydrate beforehand, drink lots of water/electrolytes on the hike, apply lots of sunscreen, etc.

Long hike, not super challenging, but the views are INCREDIBLE! Enjoy

The trail view is beautiful. Hard at the last half when the trail gets very steep and narrow leading up to towering stairs. Worth the views.

Go on a clear day or you will see nothing but white. Gorgeous and a fun hike though!

Trail is actually 5 miles, maybe a little more according to my app but the view at the top was worth it! Nearly 400 kind of uneven and some wet steps at the top headed towards summit so be prepared! Beautiful view! (Bug spray, lots of water, couple snacks would be good to have. Walking stick :)

Beautiful trail suited for all climbers...moderate stair action..various vegetation ....gorgeous view on top when clouds cleared!!

Great trail. To those of you complaining that a hike rated difficult has ‘roots, rocks, and ravines’, try Ala Moana Mall...

Definitely worth the views! Cool to see the different vegetation at different altitudes.

clean wide trail with pretty rewarding view at top

This hike is dangerous. We started on the west side and made our way up, not too bad. Luckily it was a clear-ish day - the clouds were higher than the mountains, but the sun was not out and it was still windy at the top. The ridge is very narrow and some of the rocks are not solid. A lot of the ridge is overgrown so be careful where you walk. There are a series of rope climbs both up and down, be careful! The scariest hike I’ve ever done, glad I did it!! Once you make your way across the ridge - you can’t really turn around, just finish all the way to the lookout and come down the east side. Definitely not for the faint of heart and definitely for experienced hikers.

This hike is a little more challenging due to the elevation change. The trail was vary narrow at some points due to a erosion. Great views from the peak.

Amazing hike! I loved all the different vegetation and change in scenery from the bottom to the top! Definitely get your workout in with the stairs! Bring a hiking stick to help with the way up and down them! Spectacular view at the top! I thoroughly enjoyed it as being a Phoenix desert dweller!

Very beautiful hike. I would rate this more as moderate.

Towards the bottom/mid section there were rocky parts. Getting closer to the top it was quite muddy in a few areas. recommendations/tips: -BRING WATER -According to my Google Fit app, it was definitely longer than 4 miles be ready. -Bring something to support your ankles(like well broken in boots). -There are steep inclines at certain points so make sure you don't mind that -Difficulty level 8/10 if you're not fit. if you're fit 6/10. -As rough as it is in some parts. I did see people bring their dogs. So it's dog friendly -Keep going when you get towards the top it's definitely worth it. -Bugs didn't bite much. -Trail is well taken care of. 10/10 would definitely hike again. -If you see the picnic tables you're halfway there

Not really an extreme hiking person but made it to the top! Definitely recommend wearing something that supports your ankles. Towards the top there is a section that is all roots with an incline. So beautiful looking out and seeing the view as you make your way to the top. After the roots section there are some steps that are little tiresome. I went after a rainy day and it was super muddy with an incline. Making it to the top and seeing that view is so amazing and worth it all!! If you are someone with bad ankles or knees I would recommend doing another trail because going back down was not the easiest with a bad knee. If you are like me and determined to accomplish this trail though, I would say to bring a pole to support yourself along with the way then.

Rocks, Roots, Ravines. A very unpleasant hike.

Don’t go when it’s super cloudy you won’t see a thing at the top!
