Saxon Switzerland National Park is located in the state of Saxony and lies within two geographically separate regions. The landscape comprises of forested areas and rocky canyons with hundreds of options for hikers, bikers, and rock climbers. When visiting the park, be sure to check out the Painter's Way (Malerweg) to see all of the interesting and unique rock formations this park has to offer.

This is an amazing Trail, although it is near to the German Border the whole trail is actually in the Czech Republic. An absolute amazing walk, best visited early to mid spring or late summer as the immediate summertime is very busy.. must do is the boat ride along Edmunds Gorge.. Amazing Views and friendly boat staff.. A+

We went to the Prebischtor first - the other way round. That was good, because the ascent after the boat trip through the Edmund-Klamm is gigantic steep and long! Down it was much easier. The essential boat trip is very nice! It costs about 3.50 per person. Unfortunately, there were a lot of tourists, so a star is missing.

gorgeous views

Don’t take the rout I took. We did about two hours of bush hikjng.

beautiful walks in the forest. Schrammtur has great views and opportunities for rock climbing.

Malerweg 5. Etappe is a great sectionhike from Neumannmühle to Schmilka which You can walk within 3 - 5 hours (depending on Your physical condition) with great views (especially Goldsteinaussicht and Grosses Pohlshorn). You can also walk it from Schmilka to Neumannmühle (better stop then 200 m before at Buschmühle for a delicious fried trout "Forelle Buschmüllerin"). Have an awesome hike!

The Malerweg is a 112 km long loop trail through the Sächsische Schweiz National Park near Dresden. The complete loop can be split in to multiple stages. The suggestion is to do it in 8 stages. This is the 5. Etappe (stage) from the Neumannmühle in Kirnitzschtal to Schmilka on the Elbe river. The hike goes to the top of the Große Wildberg (the second highest mountain in the Sächsische Schweiz and then down to the Elbe valley into the little town of Schmilka. The majority of the trail goes through the forests of the national park, which is changing from a spruce tree forest to a mix between spruce, beech and oak trees.
