Description

The nature reserve Neue Hagen exerts an extraordinary fascination. At an altitude of 800 meters, the heath and raised bog harbor a rare flora and fauna that has been protected since 1955. Heidschnucken, which act as "natural lawnmowers", graze there and thus ensure the preservation of the heathland. Birds like cuckoo, grouse and goat-milker build their nests. Hobby biologists even discover arctic and alpine plants in the Neuer Hagen nature reserve.

From the train station in Willingen you walk through the city with numerous cafes and shops to the tourist information Willingen at the lagoon pool and the ice rink. You start our youth trail in the direction of Stryck and soon reach the world's largest ski jump "Mühlenkopfschanze", where the Ski World Cup stops at the end of January (www.weltcupschanze-willingen.de). With the funicular or on foot you reach the inrun tower. With the elevator up to the tower head you experience the unique view down into the valley and feel like the ski jumpers. You now follow the mark W6 slowly rising through the idyllic Ittertal with 2 inviting resting places. You change to the Uplandweg mark X15 and reach a path to the Uplandsteig. Now it goes right up the hill to the dead man, a fork in the road. Soon after you reach the Hillekopfhütte with resting place at 788m altitude. This is a popular resting place of Uplandsteig-, Rothaarsteig- and Sauerland high-altitude hikers. At the height it goes through the forest to the next rest stop at the dispute hut. You now follow the mark W6 to the Hochheideturm. From here you have a magnificent view over the Upland and the adventure playground invites you to rest again or you can try out your skill at the two small climbing rocks. After you have rested, you walk slowly down the heath. In July you can eat the blueberries up here directly from the shrub! Along the cable car and across meadows we return to our starting point, the tourist information. A detour to Wildpark Willingen (www.wildpark-willingen.de) is worthwhile in any case. Tip: The day can be either sporty (summer toboggan run, climbing gym, Adventure Golf) or leisurely (lagoon) in Willingen end (www.freizeitwelt-willingen.de). The youth hostel Willingen (www.willingen.jugendherberge.de) serves as a starting point for numerous hikes and excursions.Show more
