Windsor Great ParkLength: 4.3 mi • Est. 1 h 43 m

The lake at Virginia Water was created in the 18th century and construction work first began in 1752. William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland had ambitious plans for the area, and his work on the project continued when his brother Henry Frederick succeeded him as Ranger. The woodland shores of this magnificent lake are immensely popular amongst people who love to take part in the wide range of activities that are possible here - from walking or running the perimeter, to just relaxing and enjoying the view. This area is testament to a rich history that spans centuries - from a ‘Roman temple’ built from columns and lintels brought from the ancient city of Leptis Magna (Libya) in the early 19th Century, to monuments, cascading waterfalls, and stunning vistas. It is popular all year round, with its sparkling waters and abundance of wildlife.
