Trail not very clearly marked in places and the boardwalk round the Loch was flooded out (in August). Wish we’d had wellies not walking boots to get down the path by the Loch. Pretty little walk and it filled the time we had left.

After all the rain over the past couple of days/nights the paths on the final approach were pretty soggy - but the “spout” was spectacular! Easy terrain and a simple enough clamber down to the bottom of the waterfall itself. Didn’t find the rocks to be slippy at all but we were wearing good boots. Would recommend for a short stroll.

A great opportunity to walk along Hadrian’s Wall and to picnic by the famous Sycamore Gap. Watch out for an alternative view of this beautiful tree as you walk down the path to/from Vindolanda.

BackpackingGreat!

Another one of the best sections of Hadrian’s Wall. The landscape starts to change from the highest point of the wall along Winshields Crags (345m) and windswept moorland to the rolling countryside of Cumbria around Thirlwall Castle towards Gilsland. The Samson Inn in Gilsland does great food with gluten free options! Views of the Pennines keep you company along the latter part of the walk, as well as quirky streams, bridges and bogland- take your wellies if it’s raining !

Stunning trail along part of the wall, across fields and roads. just to note parking is past the starting point and I would probably state walk is more moderate ability than easy as some steep steps to climb. Overall a beautiful, peaceful walk.

WalkingGreat!No shade

Absolutely beautiful. If you park at the end of the road (after turning at the private road) it's just under 4miles down to the waterfall and back. You start off walking down the private road and then start the incline up on a gravel path. When you start coming down next to the waterfall there are some rocky parts to climb down that can get slippy when wet. On a lovely sunny day it's a great place to have a picnic (large grassy area at the bottom) and great to jump in at the waterfall and have a swim. (the water is freezing though so would only do this on warm days)

Great walk with fantastic views! I have to say I got a little confused with the signage for the Hillfort Trail which I couldn’t find on the app. Just follow the map from the app for the walk and you can’t go wrong. Have fun!

Really enjoyed this walk. The first half is walking down a private road from the parking area to Linhope village, then the climb up starts which is steep in some areas. Once at the spout, the walk down is quite tricky especially in the rain as the rocks ca be very slippery as I experienced! Really worth the look and it’s a fairly quick walk, go take a look!

Running

Added a bit to this by branching off the street to add more elevation for a run. Good run mostly solid ground a few muddy patches; which could be worse in winter. A bit of a killer little climb near the end

This walk is very lovely. The dog needs to be on its lead for about 30% of it due to sheep but other than that they can roam free and play in the river for the most part. A lovely pub after crossing the bridge is called cross keys, lovely for a stop and some lunch if peckish!

A great circular walk from Kirknewton, up the College Burn to Hethpool Linn then following part of St Cuthbert's Way back towards Yeavering Bell, which is a great place to visit, with the entire top of the hill still surrounded by the remains of the walls of an Iron Age hill fort. Look out for the wild goats on the way up and down. Can get muddy walking through fields towards Hethpool Linn. Make sure you stick with the fence in this section as you walk alongside the wood, as the stile to cross over the fence to take you down through the trees to the burn is behind bushes so is easily missed

Great little trail in good condition with nice sea and hill views. We recommend to come early, as trails can be quite busy later in the day.

Lovely walk bit breezy after climbing the steps, views are fantastic on a clear day. And the forest section down to the reservoir has a lovely spot shaded by the trees for a picnic. Back end of the route has few miles of road walking which is never fun but they are very quiet so it’s not to bad. Vindolanda is closed currently which was a shame as that would break up the road route back to the car park.

Did this fabulous walk in an anticlockwise direction, conditions were perfect , slightly chilly but not too cold, however, once at the summit it was cold with a strong breeze. very clear views in all directions. First time in 40 years I had been up here, why oh why did I leave it so long? It was very busy today, mainly because of society's position in troubled times, everyone was very polite, giving space where needed. A lo of respect for a fabulous walk.
