RunningMuddy

Did this as a morning run, its a pretty technical run, with steep climbs and steep descents, didn't realise how boggy the Comb Hill section would be - was thankful that I came out with both shoes still on my feet. As a running loop, its not great, but the views are worth it.

Fantastic location but... This is a FOOTPATH. Not a mountain bike trail. Signs are present requesting no bikes.

The route is easy to follow with markers along the route, forestry England have put nice stone path along simonside and dove crag making it easy and less muddy. Lovely views all along, final stage along the road requires care as narrow and some traffic.

WalkingMuddy

One of our favourites, we did it anti-clockwise yesterday which we preferred, we didn’t hurry too much and it took about 6 hours. The walk itself is pretty steady for most walkers, but if you don’t like boggy terrain it’s not for you. If like me you find it quite fun then great! On a sunny day you can see for miles into Scotland, England and out to the Sea and the islands offshore. Plus all the beautiful purple heath, grouse etc.

Trail not very clearly marked in places and the boardwalk round the Loch was flooded out (in August). Wish we’d had wellies not walking boots to get down the path by the Loch. Pretty little walk and it filled the time we had left.

After all the rain over the past couple of days/nights the paths on the final approach were pretty soggy - but the “spout” was spectacular! Easy terrain and a simple enough clamber down to the bottom of the waterfall itself. Didn’t find the rocks to be slippy at all but we were wearing good boots. Would recommend for a short stroll.

A great opportunity to walk along Hadrian’s Wall and to picnic by the famous Sycamore Gap. Watch out for an alternative view of this beautiful tree as you walk down the path to/from Vindolanda.

BackpackingGreat!

Another one of the best sections of Hadrian’s Wall. The landscape starts to change from the highest point of the wall along Winshields Crags (345m) and windswept moorland to the rolling countryside of Cumbria around Thirlwall Castle towards Gilsland. The Samson Inn in Gilsland does great food with gluten free options! Views of the Pennines keep you company along the latter part of the walk, as well as quirky streams, bridges and bogland- take your wellies if it’s raining !

We had a lovely walk up to the waterfalls. It’s really pretty and our 2 year old walked it so pretty easy walk. We would definitely recommend this walk.

Stunning trail along part of the wall, across fields and roads. just to note parking is past the starting point and I would probably state walk is more moderate ability than easy as some steep steps to climb. Overall a beautiful, peaceful walk.
