Enjoy a fantastic walk with an amazing scenery at the Ingleborough NNR on this 18.3km trail near Ingleton, North Yorkshire. The reserve covers an impressive 1,014 hectares on some of the northern, north-eastern and eastern slopes surrounding Ingleborough, one of the famous Three Peaks of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This site is one of the best places to see a whole suite of habitats and species which are strongly influenced by the underlying geology. Small base-rich wetlands can be seen with Yorkshire primrose, limestone pavement with bloody crane’s-bill, calcareous grassland with common rock-rose and limestone rock outcrops, cliffs and scree with juniper. Upland dry heath can be seen with dwarf shrubs including bilberry and bog habitats dominated by hare’s-tail cottongrass, with cranberry, round-leaved sundew and bog asphodel in the wetter areas. In addition to all of the plant life there is of course a whole host of animal species which rely on these habitats, such as northern brown argus butterfly, curlew, roe deer and bats in the cave systems. The views really do take your breathe away. It is no wonder that the Yorkshire Dales are referred to as “God’s Own Country”. This trail gives you the feeling of being remote, wild and free. It is truly a walk for all, whether you are in a wheelchair, with a dog, or were just looking for places to walk near Selside. The Reserve is designated as access land, giving people the right to visit without charge whenever they wish, so there are no charges or membership subscriptions to this beautiful area. Visitors can come and go as they please.Show more
#6 - Glasshouses, Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale
Yorkshire Dales National Park

Length: 3.6 mi • Est. 1 h 44 m
A circular walk from Glasshouses in North Yorkshire. This fairly long walk can be done in two stages with a refreshment stop in Pateley Bridge along the way. Part one from Glasshouses to Pateley Bridge takes you on a riverside journey into the market town, before heading up into the fields and green lanes of Nidderdale. The circular part returns to Pateley Bridge before retracing the outward route back to Glasshouses. This walk is especially for you if your dog likes a little swim along the way. It also offers loads of fresh air, good exercise and great views of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The route follows medium terrain with some uphill walking on enclosed green lanes, fields, tarmac paths and quiet roads. There are no stiles and just some gates plus one high stonewall gap with stone steps up to negotiate. There is some walking on quiet roads and tracks. As this is the Dales you need to keep an eye out for sheep and cattle, as well as game-birds in season. There are plenty of opportunities for a canine paddle or swim and the enclosed green lanes and quiet fields allow plenty of off lead time for well-behaved dogs. If you prefer, you can shorten the walk by starting and finishing in Pateley Bridge. Allow 3 hours for the full walk, or 2 hours if you are starting in Pateley Bridge. Show more
