A circular walk around Bradgate Park in Newtown Linford near Leicester in Leicestershire. The walking route explores the park, visiting the River Lin, the old manor house ruins, the Old John Tower folly and the war memorial along the way. The landscape is really beautiful, with gnarled oak trees (many of which are well over 500 years old) and rugged rocky outcrops, set against more formal ruins and specimen parkland trees. The tower sits on the highest point of the park and gives amazing views across the valley and the city of Leicester. You will also see the resident herd of deer. The walk follows a mixture of tarmac paths and unmade grassland paths that can get a bit muddy at times. The first stretch is fairly flat, but there is a long and steady climb up to the tower (of about 120 metres). Dogs are welcome in the park but remember you will come across deer throughout your walk – please follow the rules about which areas dogs must be on a lead and which areas they can be off lead (as long as they are under close control). There are no stiles, steps or kissing gates on route – you will only need to negotiate two simple wooden gates. There are two cafes and toilets available within the park. Allow 1.5 hours. Show more

A nice but tiring uphill stroll through the deerpark followed by a beautiful country village. Ends with a long and major road, but this leaves you back in the deerpark so not too bad.Show more
