Length: 6.9 mi • Est. 3 h 27 m
Dovedale is a beautiful place to visit. The walk can be a bit busy in the nice weather as it is a very popular place to go. There are some stepping stones across the river which most people go and see that is 5 mins from the car park. If you keep walking along the path past the stepping stones it is not so busy and the scenery is beautiful with plenty to see along the way.Show more

Dovedale National Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust is a valley in the Peak District of England, very famous among visitors. This walk takes you along the limestone promontory called Lover's Leap, which is accessible from a set of steps. On a sunny day, it can be rather busy during the beginning stretch until you cross the bridge at Ilam rock. The stretch up through the woods is pretty challenging, and towards the end, a section of the route is not dog-friendly as there are two styles to get past. However, if you don't go over the first stile and continue along the edge of the wall you eventually come out past the second stile and end up back on the marked route. Just as you come back towards the car park there is a sign for an alternate route without cattle - if you have dogs that's probably the best route to take as there is a field of cows to get through, but either is fine (and ultimately depends on the dog and the owner). There’s a conveniently placed pub near the end, so a well-earned refreshment or bite to eat should be seriously contemplated. There are many legends about Lover's Leap limestone formations. Come and check it out or yourself! Show more

Length: 21.5 mi • Est. 10 h 39 m
This trail start at Wetton, then heads to Thor's cave then down to Ilam. Go over the top of Thorpe Cloud and over the edge of the River Dove, then head in to Milldale, Alstonefield and round Narrowdale Hill. After that head in to Hartington for some cheese then make a left towards Ecton, then finally cross the River Manifold to make your way back down to Wetton. Much of the route crosses farmland grazed by cows or sheep, so please keep your dog on the leash. There are stiles, hills and uneven ground throughout the route, as well as a small amount of road walking. Show more
