Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty includes two areas of coastline along the Solway Firth. The park is home to multiple species of butterfly, including some rare specimens that live on Mawbray and Wolsty banks. These banks along with Silloth dunes are home to the very rare natterjack toad Bufo calamita and the great crested newt. The area is also home to the Discovery Centre, whose main exhibition in the discovery centre looks at the wildlife, geography, and communities along the Solway Coast, and how things have changed over time, from the last ice age to the present day.
