Description

Pali-Aike National Park is located in the southern Magallanes region of Chile, bordering Argentina, and has an amazing volcanic landscape: the park contains part of the Pali-Aike volcanic field, which makes it a unique terrain covered by basaltic lava that emulates the lunar landscape and is very attractive for geologists, volcanologists, archaeologists, etc. Visitors can hike through several trails, natural caves and craters, surrounded by semi-desert vegetation and find animals such as guanacos, rheas, gray foxes, flamingos, chingües and bats. With permission it is possible to access the Fell Cave, in which cave paintings dating back to around 9 thousand years are found. The park has three picnic and rest areas, but visitors must bring enough water for their visit, since the park does not provide.
