This trail is rough and rugged, has many steep ascents/descents, but is well marked and easy enough to follow. While most of the hike is through deep forest, there are a few opportunities to see the panorama of Lake Superior around the Rossport area, with all of its many islands and channels. There are a few creeks to obtain water from and the trail is maintained enough to travel with a heavy pack, but is definitely a "backcountry" experience. The Rainbow Falls are a pleasant surprise at the end of this leg.
