Did this hike in 2 days which is doable but not so enjoyable. We started at Sunshine parking lot and hiked up (gondola was closed for the season from 8th of Sep). Direction form Sunshine Village to Mount Shark is easier. Hike is beautiful but you have to be lucky and have good weather as well. I would definitely recommend this hike but better to take it easy and spend at least 3-4 days on the trail.

Long grind to Assiniboine where you’ll be greeted by quite a few who drop in by helicopter. Many are there to climb the ice and rock of this technical, iconic peak. Best if combined with the awesome treks that surround the main peak where few go and the passes, glades and black peaks are stunning.

Spectacular backpacking trip. Long two full days to Mount Assiniboine area. Passes through Grizzly Bear habitat.

I would say Sunshine is less steep uphill than the trails from Mt Shark trailhead. However it is longer, so if you are doing it in one day (like we did) you will be hurting. There is also a lack of water in the Valley of the Rocks so pack lots of water in advance and alongside a water filtration system. We managed in one day but if you want the hike to be pleasant I would definitely recommend splitting the journey into two days. The first half of this trail is absolute gorgeous and so green, as is the last 5 k through the meadows. It took us 9 hours with some stops but nothing crazy.

I prefer this trail (Sunshine Village) for hike-in to Mt. Assiniboine. Stunning view and easy.

Didn't take into account 30 min ride up to Standish. Slower group plus a bit of rain. Took 6.5 hrs on trail, return to town at 8 PM.

Very nice easy trail. Small Marshy section. Very exposed to the sun

I have done this trail twice. 1982 and 2016. Bridge at Suprise Creek gone in 2016. This route is not used much . We saw no other hikers our 3 days getting to core Assinaboine area. Beautiful hike.

Trail closed! Trees unstable due to wildfire.
