Passing through a total of five different parks from beginning to end, the Sea to Sky trail offers a unique experience not found on most other hikes.
After a short entry via the Baden Powell, the Sea to Sky trail begins in the heart of Lynn Canyon Park. This area is a rich rainforest and the trail is quite rugged with lots of roots, mud, and a constant rolling elevation change. There are also a few staircases and boardwalks to help smooth things out. Opportunities for views or photographs of impressive Lynn Canyon and Lynn Creek are endless with many worn trails leading out to the canyon's edge.
After Lynn Canyon, the trail enters Inter River Park where it turns into a smooth walking path and the forest cover disappears as well. Lynn Creek continues to flow next to the trail but it now looks and sounds comparatively tame. Dogs are also allowed off leash here so you will meet a lot of four legged friends.
Bridgman and Lynnmouth Park come next with a similar feel except you are now quite close to traffic noise and you will even need to pass under and across a few busy roads. The final park, Harbourview, leads out to a 360 degree lookout tower on the seashore. However, this tower is in the middle of an industrial area so do be aware the surroundings and views may not be to everyone's taste.
Parking for this hike is at the Baden Powell trailhead on Lillooet Road. It is a relatively small lot and on weekends , it can easily fill up. Another good choice is the large parking area at Inter River Park. Of course, this does mean you will now be starting the hike in the middle instead of a typical out and back. But depending on your preference, the option of going directly south onto the walking paths or north onto the forested hiking trail may actually be favourable.
