I hiked (attempted to hike) this trail yesterday but only made it about 3/4 of the way before turning back. The trail up to the lake is decent with minimal snow. However, once I started up the trail to the ridge I soon realized the snow was way too loose & I definitely fell through to my waist a few times. I followed some old boot tracks up the ridge before I finally gave up and decided it wasn’t worth falling through a crevasse. Great hike though, definitely a workout! Go prepared & stay off the ridge for now

Did it couple days ago, still quite snowy. The road is closed and some bridges are removed in the area, but you can do this walk. Up to the lake and viewpoint (nice views!) is quite duable with regard to the snow, but we returned here because the snow thereafter got too deep.

Nice and steep but not the best view

Fantastic hike. We loved it, totally worth the hard work for the amazing view!!!! ❤️

What a thrill to walk on the ridgeback of a glacial moraine, views were expansive.

Rushing river, short walk, perfect place to stop on a rock for lunch and listen to the roaring river. nice bridge crossing views. contemplate the confluence.

Great for young kids

Big and steep! Puts the size of Sir Donald into perspective (you feel small) and we got a nice wind off Vaux Glacier on the way up. Great access from the highway and Illecillawaet Campground.

Great hike with a lot of vertical relief. Some cool terrain with an ending that is unexpected. One of the classic hikes of the Selkirks. Worthwhile!

Beautiful walk in a beautiful setting. Moist forest and fresh air in a perfect mountain setting.

(Note: the picture of the red sign with yellow letters is not for this trail. This trail is in Glacier National Park off the Trans Canada Highway near Rogers Pass)

Trailhead at illecillewaet Campground. Follow railway grade and turn left to pass through the foundation ruins of the Glacier town site. Go past 4 junctions; first for Marion lake, then Meeting of the Waters, then Great Glacier, then Glacier Crest trails and continue south up valley for 4 Klms gaining 390 meters at inline rate of 10.2 then a couple of quick switch backs heading SSW and an increase in incline for 1.5 Klm and a final push up the moraine ridge of another 1.5 Klm to access the Alpine Club of Canada's Asulkan hut. Total gain in elevation is 869 m with the last stretch (479m) rated 6.2. Hut is busy in winter and summer weekends. It sleeos 12 and booked through Alpine Club, Canmore, AB.

It is an August day, great weather with the trail head at Illecillewaet Camp ground and an easy old railway grade then with a left turn you will past the foundation ruins of the Glacier town site and then take an acute right turn to a steep switch back 2.2 klm stretch uphill for 425 metres gain to Marion lake. Trail eases off a wee bit after the lake for 4.6 Klm and a continual elevation gain of 655 metres. (short cut route steep to weather station and often used when snow slides cover main trail.) Weather station hut 150 meters below ridge and approximately 1 Klm from trail end. Trail finding and scramble possible further along ridge to summit. Incline rate 5.1 to Marion Lake and 6.9 averaged from the from lake onward.
