Explore the most popular hiking trails in Buntzen Lake Reservoir Park with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

Warning: the west side is currently closed to repair a bridge, so you’re detoured to the lake view trail. Which is gorgeous (including an epic waterfall view), but definitely heed the warnings of how steep it is.

wait for a sunny day, the vistas are amazing

Great single track trail running. Ran the loop twice. Some nice elevation gain that adds a nice challenge without killing the legs. It’s a shame the park doesn’t open until 8 am, would be nice to get out and run first thing in the morning.

It was a good hike with some steep parts. View was ok. Wasn’t marked very well, we had to back track a couple times...lots of people asking if they were going in the right direction, especially at the beginning. Busy place too, I prefer a quieter, less travelled hike.

Excellent time. Enjoyed the well maintained trail. A good balance of wooded trail on one side and more open on the other side. Even though kind of a rainy day it didn’t dampen a great outing. We’ll be back likely when sunnier. Come early as parking could be a challenge. Took us about 2.5 hours at a steady pace.

Great loop hike weaving through forest next to the lake. On the scale, slides toward moderate on the easier side due to some inclining sections. We did this in 2.75 hours walking at a good pace and stopping for pictures. We hiked it in the rain and loved it. I would come back on a hot day to add in some swimming.

I hike this trail a lot. Some nice long uphills and a few downhills, but generally an easy hike. Great swimming at the north end in summer. A couple of friendly ravens there too.

It was misty with rain today. We did the 16km hike that's including the loopback from the west side. The view was not clear from the viewpoint. It was steep to go down from the Diez vista. You must pay attention to the trail markers otherwise you may go the wrong way. all in all, it was a beautiful hike . Be prepared, I recommend footwear with ankle support. we used hiking poles and they definitely helped on the way down .we did the full hike no shortcuts .great hike!

very steep areas. the rocks beside the water falls I did slip but was caught. was beautiful but difficult

Great winter hike or early morning hike before work. Busy in afternoon. Dog friendly. long enough to feel like you went on a hike.

Good hike, the views are not as grand as the Northshore. Coming down can be hard on old joints.

Great low elevation hike tat can be done almost year round. Nice views of Deep cove and dog friendly area. it can take up to 6 hours. just going to the second viewpoint is good if you only have 2 or 3 hours.

Dozens of laps over several years, always a good hike & I love to pack some power snacks to have a decadent little lunch at the North beach. Highly recommend clockwise no matter what people say

really nice hike easy and friendly for dog, 2.5hours

Great walk, we have done this many times. We even did a vlog of our walk. Check it out on our channel J&M Jaunts on YouTube.

Perfect on nice hot day light hike with few very nice swim sports...

Beautiful lake. The trail was well maintained and not crowded at all. Took around 2.5 hours total to go around the whole lake. Mostly shaded which is nice on a hot sunny day. Didn't feel like a real hike though since there wasn't a viewpoint at the end, it was more of an exercise/walking trail. Perfect trail for dogs.

Loved it. Dogs enjoyed it even more - lots of places for them to swim.

Did this hike at 9am on the Monday of a long weekend (August 6th) in just under 4 hours. Only saw a few other hikers, no groups of kids blaring music, and jumping in the lake at the end is the perfect finish.

Beautiful walk, mostly shady. Lot’s of spot for swimming. I recommend to get there fairly early in the day, as the parking is very limited. We had to walk 40 min to actually start the hike

Wonderful hike. Great variety of scenery.

Great hike! I highly recommend starting the trail at the south end of the lake and going straight up the mountain (You could loop around the lake and start up the mountain on the north end.) there are a few sketchy spots that are hard enough to go up, let alone try to go down.
The second viewpoint was the best IMO.
Took us just under 4 hours to do the hike. We are fairly seasoned hikers, so I would imagine less aggressive hikers would need about 5 hours to complete this hike. Mostly shaded and canopied. We did this hike in the hottest part of the day and stayed pretty cool the whole way.

great trail. Not for beginners, friend of mine had to rescue someone who fell down the slope beside the waterfall. A 21 year old hiker also fell from the rocks on the falls and died not to long ago.

Great hike with hard and easy spots, wonderful workout, beautiful scenery. I wish everyone followed the dog on leash law on this trail, as some of the narrow lanes can be difficult to tread when dogs come running at you.

This is my favourite hike

Great hike with really cool viewpoints! The first three or four viewpoints are the best, but a couple of the viewpoints after that aren't really great because foliage covers them from the trail. The first part is intense uphill switchbacks for about three kms, then it is a nice slow downhill for the rest. Hike took a total of four hours, not very busy either for starting at 10:00 but it was a cloudier day and it was definitely getting really busy by the time we finished.

Lovely trail, we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Awesome hike! The actual start point is once you have crossed the floating bridge (that is where you see the sign) It’s definitely more than a moderate hike in my opinion, very challenging In some areas and a has quite a rocky terrain, so wear good shoes. I would definitely do it again.

Beautiful and easy

Completed July 8, 2018- Hiking time about 5 hours. Proceeded to Lindsey lake via the Lower Lakes then back via the Lookout Trail- The Pulprit and towards Saphats Ridge. Small snow patches around the lakes, none on the main trail. Mosquitos were really bad at the lakes, especially Lindsey Lake, so we breaked at a lookout just before the Pulprit. Beautiful through the lakes and well maintained easy walking trail.
