Don’t recommend the full loop but lakeview ridge is fun and can follow it to easily climb dunwey/Rogan

Was beautiful trail! Easy at the beginning. Does get a little bit more challenging past the falls! So worth going up and around the lake!

Epic hike. Completed on 9/23/19. At this time of year, the ferry ran only at 9a there and 5:30p back. I'm a very overweight short female that lives barely above sea level. I really wanted to complete this hike, but was very concerned about the elevation gain and altitude. I can do length on flat land forever, so the length in and of itself was not daunting for me. However, the added stress of being back to the dock in time for the return ferry was. This is probably one of the hardest trails I've completed taking all those factors into consideration. The ascent is not particularly steep, but about 3 of the 5 miles is fairly constant uphill. I took a LOT of "catch your breath" breaks, but mostly forced myself to keep moving. It took me about 4 hours to reach Crypt Lake. I only took about a 10 minute break at Crypt Lake before heading back down. The descent took me about 3 hours and 15 minutes. There is a section of the trail that is very rocky, so you don't feel extremely stable for a good distance. Add in the high winds we were experiencing and it added an extra element of anxiety. However, it was a fun hike. Crypt Lake was one itself of my least favorite lakes to view in Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks, but the hike itself was amazing and a fun challenge.

Beautiful easy hike, with a rewarding view at the end my and my dog do this atleast once a week, just wish people knew trail etiquette

Dog-friendly trail (be prepared for the ladder/tunnel and ledge with a suitable harness). Fabulous views! Only downside was the crowd of people on the boat/trail and up at the lake. Would love to do this on a weekday in late fall if the weather was nice.

Will definitely do this again. This trail provides enough challenge on both distance and elevation gain. Plus the ladder, tunnel and cable are added fun to the experience not to mention the thought of being able to make it back in time for the ferry back to the town :) Saw three bears during the hike, one of which was right on the trail. It was cold and windy during the hike but still beautiful in all places.

Did this hike 3 days ago on 9-6-2019. We started from Marquise Hole. Cut off about 8 miles by not starting at AB5. Started late at about 9:15AM. First long hike in some years so we were fighting endurance. Had to cross a stream immediately, then a little later a small section of the river (Dardanelles) between Lower and Middle Waterton Lake. It was our first water crossing on a hike. Used regular trash bags for our feet and legs as well as 55 gallon yard waste bags over our entire body to our chests. Changed into water shoes and “less” to remain dry. That worked perfectly. It was 55 degrees F and the water felt great...we way over dressed (felt like 70 degrees outside). Water was about walking pace in the morning, but evening on return was a bit faster but me and my 5 foot tall wife made it just fine. The Trail was covered in horse tracks and manure. Only saw 4 people all day. There were a ton of muddy sections. We decided to turn around at 3:15 as we still had about 800 foot vertical gain to go (about half a mile at 45 to 65 degree grade) our legs were toast. Made it back to our car around 7:30pm after sun dropped down below the mountains. Strenuous hike...upset we didn’t make it all the way to the top, but didn’t want to be hiking at night in bear country.

We also did the hike yesterday with the rain and wind. The tunnel and cable area was completed by my lady who has a bad fear of heights. She completed it. Truly very cool. I did this hike once b4 in 2015 on a sunny 22 degree day and the views were stunning. Not to be missed if you love both the journey and destination.

Great trail. Was particularly cloudy/rainy yesterday when we did it, which made the views barely visible. Getting to the lake was mildly unremarkable because of this as the surrounding mountains were mostly covered. And 5:30 pick-up is definitely a bit too late. We did the loop around the lake to kill time and slowly made our way back to the boat landing but still had an hour to kill there before the boat came to take us back. I’d like to return and do this trail on a nice day as I imagine it’s amazing in the right conditions!

Long approach perfect for trailrunning and amazing views at the top every time!!

Trailhead is right in the village of Waterton. The hike is fairly easy, at the beginning and gets progressively steeper after the lower falls. When you descend down the final approach to the lake anticipation sets in and you are not disappointed. Surrounding the lake are the magnificent Rockies. Just stand there and take it all in. There is a trail that circles the lake but we didn't do it as it started to shower. An awesome afternoon hike or make it a day. An amazing day hike I would recommend to anyone.

This is the second time I’ve done this hike and it doesn’t get old. It definitely made the top 20 hikes list for good reason! The trail itself is not actually that difficult or steep it’s just long. If you’re trying to make a good accurate trail recording make sure you pause it before you enter the tunnel, the loss of GPS reception does some weird this to the track. Fantastic day 10/10 would recommend.

Easy hike to the falls. Then killer uphill climb to the lake. But worth it. Lake and surrounding mountains are beautiful

Great hike, has a bit of everything, falls, cliffs, mountains, lakes, and a boat ride to and from difficulty is probably more of a moderate hike. Only tough part is the cable traverse along the cliff ledge and the tunnel. Otherwise fairly simple hike, just long. Great day hike tho
