A great little 5km trail with options to do additional kms after the loop. From the parking lot we walked to the lake and kept right until we found the trail. Take a left soon after and that is the start of the trail. It was our first time on the trail and I used GPS which really helped us stay on trail with 3 or 4 intersections that could have got us lost. We did the loop clockwise and looked for the side trail that continues climbing upwards but couldn't find it. Trail was dry and in great condition.

Very good hike, steady slope for most of the way. There are a few lookout spots on the way to the top that houses an amazing view of the kananaskis country area! When I went there was a tremendous amount of snow about 3/4 of the way up, but it just added to the challenge. The view at the top is gorgeous. You will get a beautiful sight of the mountain ridge to the west. Overall it was a great hike, would definitely recommend to the experienced hiker!

As of May 15, there was still quite a bit of snow on the trails towards the top

The trail was nice and not too much debris, just in certain areas but it was easy to bypass. The view near the end was beautiful and there wasn’t too many people on a Saturday, when we went. Saw lots of Moose droppings, so they are in the area. Thought we heard one as well, but didn’t see any.

Lots of debris on trail. Very pleasant hike. Tried Deer Ridge but still lots of snow & ice

trail well used no snowshoe needed. recommend boots as there was some ankle deep snow.

I followed Eagle Hill, went up the very steep hill around the loop and followed the well traveled trail back. Somehow ended up on the highway so next time, stay left.

Completed the loop, could have used some snow shoes. This was more a reconnaissance hike looking to do a snow shoe traverse of Ole Buck mountain from north to south summit. Beautiful day for i

Slow steady climb. Nice day and a nice panoramic view at the rock cropping summit. Wonderful place to enjoy lunch. Have not spent much time in the area. Neat to see Moose Mountain from the Cox Hill vantage point.

Nice hike...short drive from Calgary...sooo if Burstall is a 4 i guess this would be a 31/2.
Not difficult...slow steady grade...spectacular view from the top and for lunch!

Pretty decent hike! We got seriously messed up at the start and wandered around on cowpaths for a while. We should have stayed low instead of going up to the lookout bench. After that is fine. Bit of a grind up a cut line but the top was very nice. Walking through pines down to edge of Sibbald Flats. Took our old dog.

Amazing view at the top. I didn't find this hike to be to difficult and it was during winter. Can't wait to go back and see it during the summer.

Nice day for this hike. Early morning venture with no one else on the trail. The trail was mostly dry and in very good shape. There is alot of tall grass in the lower areas, making some sections of the trail slightly difficult to locate. I did see a moose and later a white tail deer just off the trail, otherwise very quite (bonus for early trailhead start). I added Deer Ridge on my way back to the parking area, which was in great shape today.

What an absolutely fantastic hike. The weather was perfect, and aside from 2 other couples, we were the only people we saw for almost 4 hours. The hike was moderate, but offered many wonderful views and a vast assortment of wildlife, game trails and tracks, and flowers and foliage. Although the signage is plentiful at the head of the trail, you have to keep your wits about you when venturing to the Deer Ridge 'summit', as we were turned around a few times, turning the 6 km hike into a 7.5 km hike lol. All in all we honestly couldn't have asked for a better place to find some peace outside of the busy city. We'll be back for sure.

Lots of flies out when we were here.
Really nice and easy trail.
I would recommend wearing long pants.
Lots of tall grass and narrow paths.
We tried to attach deer ridge on this day but an angry grouse wouldn't let us pass.

Decided to do an easy hike for the day. We took a couple wrong turns at the beginning but ended up were we wanted to be at the Deer Ridge summit. Very easy hike with a decently maintained trail. Definitely some fallen trees on the trail at times but always easy to get around.
The loop we did was around 8 km total, under 300m elevation gain and it took under 3 hours with all our stops for viewpoints and caching.
It was a good first hike of the year and it's only an hour from Calgary. Now it's time for the fun ones!

Amazing views at the summits! Well worth the climb! Some ice along the trail and quite a bit of snow starting about halfway up (May 8/17).

Very challenging but the view at the end is totally worth it. There are a couple spots along the way to look out (views of moose mountain). Starts off with a lot of elevation gain then you can barely notice it until you get close to the top. Took 6 hours round trip with some snow on the trail.

Fun! A very nice view point considering your only on a foothill.

Still a bit of snow/ice on the incline, but was manageable with shoe spikes. Excited to do this hike again when the ice on the pond melts and the plants bloom!
