It was beautiful! If you can't make it all the way to the summit, the view from the peak is gorgeous too. I did find a cell phone there from previous hikers - if you think it's yours please contact me at davis_shilo@shaw.ca with the type of phone, the case, and the background picture. Thanks!!!

Was out there the same time as Iain on Thanksgiving, loved the experience on the trail. Great hike with the fam, but we didn’t make it to the summit due to weather.

Parking is available for about 15 cars. I did the loop in the clockwise direction, which seems to be easier. It was a nice balance of within shade and sun shine with a direction fairly easy to find. The best part of the hike is the view of the mountains as a back ground behind the river. Similarly the bence for a photo with the mountains. At this time of the year, the larches were gone while the patch was slippery with snow and mud. Stay safe and enjoy the hike.

Really fun little thanksgiving turkey burner in the first snow of the fall. Can’t really go wrong on this one.

First ones on the trail this morning. Thankful for poles and micro-spikes for the steep sections. Very dry below the new snow.

Great quick leg burner up. Great views. Easy and quick on a time crunch. Steep so not great for smallish humans (under 6)

Hiking trail: Junction Mountain Fire Lookout & Mount Hoffman Hiking date: October 9, 2020 Distance: 30.5km Total elevation gain: 1,315m Time: 08:30 (seniors’ group, 30 min lunch) Dog-friendliness: 5/5 I had never driven down Hwy 546 but, boy oh boy, is it ever a pretty drive! Crossing the picturesque Sheep River (Photo 1) a short distance away from the trailhead, this is a long hike along a double-track to the fire outlook with some views along the way (Photo 2). The out-and-back is a total of 25 km distance and 1,000m elevation gain. If you like steady and low-grade climbing, this is for you. But if you ask me, I think this seniors’ group was longing for a more vigorous, steeper workout - like the one Cascade Mountain offered, haha - as they made real quick work of this hike. The wind was biting cold at the outlook though the views were pretty (Photo 3). We quickly ate our lunches, posed for some pictures (Photos 4 and 5), and hurried down to lower, warmer elevations (Photos 6-9). Some of us hiked the single-track offshoot to the summit of Mount Hoffman, which had a short section of steep grade to rival that of Prairie Mountain’s. To the west, we saw rain clouds following an impressive-looking Chinook arch (Photo 10). As the storm system was quickly moving toward us, we descended as fast as we could to avoid being caught in a deluge of rain. Instagram for pics/DM: rootyhiker

I really enjoyed the drive in for this hike as I typically highway 1 into the mountains for hikes, so it was nice driving through black diamond and truner valley area. The little waterfalls by the beginning of this hike are very nice, but pretty busy. The hike itself was just ok. Starts on a wider trail then gets narrower after turning off the large trail. One steep section in the trees during this hike, but it's not long at all and manageable. I found the summit a little underwhelming. There's some nice views, but the summit is pretty large and not very dramatic

Completed this hike Oct 3 2020, completing it Anti-clockwise. The first 5 km is a nice walk in the woods, great in the shade. After the first 5km, the hike uphill begins. The Trails is a little overgrown, but this is due to the lack of traffic on this portion of the trail. When we got to the top we stopped at the ridge for a snack. the views from the top were fantastic. Worth the scramble to the top. 16km in total. needed lots of water as the temps reached mid 20's which is great for October. Very quiet trail. Best of you do not like crowds !!

We did this hike today. We went counter clockwise. It was a nice walk through the woods. We got near the peak of south volcano ridge and figured we were there so would climb to the top for lunch. We couldn’t find the trail to go up so we bushwhacked but once at the top we found the trail to go down. 16km by the time we got back to the parking lot including leaving the trail to go to the peak. We passed 3 groups of 2 people 2 of whom were on horses. Great hike if you don’t want to be surrounded by people.

Nice trail if you are looking for a non strenuous hike, lots of verity. Beautiful hot day this Saturday Oct 3, 2020. Not a busy trail. Going down to the water was a great place to stop for lunch or a break in the hike.

Beautiful trail. The view from the top is great. Be careful of the cows, we did get charged by some of them.

great hike with amazing views. The hardest bit is at about 2.5km in, it is extremely steep with no footholds poles really help. It would be better with a few steps or switchbacks. Really enjoyable and only took 1 hour to the top.

Quite steep in parts, poles would help, hiking boots essential. great view of mountains, lovely fall colours at base before hike begins. Need bone dry conditions (would be awful if wet)
