Great hike with awesome views

Super awesome view for a fairly easy hike. Some steep areas but worth it. Definitely going to do this hike next time I’m in town! Lots of horse poop so keep a look out!

Did this one last Saturday starting around 9 AM. We got there early and had a chance to explore the pass before the weather clouded over and rain arrived. A moderate switchbacked trail approach to the tree line and then a pleasant uphill walk among alpine tundra to the pass. We encountered a small group of bighorn sheep just off the trail that were wary but undeterred by our presence as they grazed among the rocks. The views seems to go on for miles and we walked along the faint trail beyond the pass marker for about a mile before the winds prompted us to turn back. At 7700 ft. it’s cold and windy but worth it. The views remind one of the Scottish Highlands and are otherworldly given the minimal effort expended to reach them. There is a side trail to an overlook of the Athabasca Glacier from the pass that we opted not to explore given the awesome views of the Columbia Icefield leading up the trail.

Really enjoyed this one! So many interesting views, and we saw a large herd of bighorn sheep which was a bonus. It was pretty busy on a Friday afternoon, but everyone was polite.

Those not looking for a big hike can stop halfway at the red Adirondack chairs looking out over the Athabasca Glacier, but the meadow up toward the top is absolutely stunning and worth seeing!

There’s a steady incline with some rocky portions, but not a tough hike by any means. We saw lots of different age groups (and a few dogs) up there.

Don’t miss this one!

I was looking forward to doing this hike and it didn’t disappoint. Much of it was uphill and we climbed quickly to amazing views. Both the red chairs and the bighorn sheep were a bonus. It’s a fun, interesting hike. The only disappointment was at the top, no glacial lake or real reward as we’re used to in Colorado, BUT this was still a fabulous hike on a beautiful sunny day!

Nice short hike. Great views of the lakes and the town of Jasper

Great views of the alpine. We did this hike in just over three hours at a pretty steady pace. Most of the hike is in the trees but the section in the alpine makes the trek up worth it. A good afternoon hike.

Excellent hike. Stay left at the junction. Peak the hill to the right (clockwise loop) for panoramic view.

Steady climb up. Beautiful meadow at the top. Saw my first ever Caribou! Great hike!

2018.08 easier than expected. loved mountain top views and red chairs.

note to Samsung users: do NOT put ur phone in power saving mode or else you'll end up with a recording like mine... totally inaccurate. anyway, this hike was described as an after-dinner walk. I would say it's a little more challenging than that. its still easy but it had been raining so the trails were quite muddy and you need proper footwear.

This is my favourite day hike trail in the Jasper park area. The climb is progressive through a lovely forested area with peaks of a view on the way up. Took me 3 or 4 hours total I think. You will find yourself in a the middle of a gorgeous valley for the top section of the trail, surrounded by mountains. There is no peak to climb on the actual trail, but the views are worth it. (Hint, recommend staying left at the “Y” on the ascent.) This is grizzly bear territory! Make sure you have bear spray. I encountered 1 grizzly on my journey, but had no issues.
Will do this trail again for sure! :)

Great views of the area! There are lots of other routes if you want to keep it longer. I’ve done the marked route before and a longer one, both can be done in 2-3 hours, depending on your pace. This is a well groomed and popular area for hiking and horseback riding. Could be done in sneakers if you don’t have proper hiking boots. Some short steep sections, but accessible for the average casual hiker. Would do again for a short day hike.

Beautiful views from bottom to top!

Great walk with nice balance of vertical and walking. Big horn sheep are a bonus.

Hiked counter clockwise. Be sure to climb the spur trail at top before the hard left toward the creek. The views towards the lake and on the other side the valley you will later traverse are unmatched.

Incredible hike. The views start relatively early in the hike, so it’s worth doing even if you only want complete a short part of it. The views at the top are absolutely stunning. One of my favorites.

Access road still closed for the season!

Beautiful hike, makes for a good day trip. It’s a fairly easy hike and has rewarding views at the top! Would recommend!

Nice travelled path but didn't feel like I was just walking on a trail. Lots of wide areas to rest and good view at the end.

Did that hike on a whim while driving on the ice field park ways, and this was a great decision! Relatively quick ascent for stunning views of the glaciers, far from the tourist crowd on the road (even if a lot of people climb this path). Kinda cold and windy but worth it :)

easy hike to a beautiful end point!

A very worthwhile hike. Not very strenuous. Be prepared to dodge fellow humans but at least the bugs are far and few between. Great views from most of the trail but the best when you reach the very top.

Amazing views throughout this hike! Wilcox ridge is a must for an amazing view of the ice fields.

Great views at the top at the outlook and further up trail. After that it is just a walk through the forest for about 3.5km until you get back to the lake. A busy trail and a very touristy area.

Breathtaking, and overall stunning. The first part of the hike was a climb. 3/5 the gain was at this part here. It then takes you to a fork where the loop connects. Turning left was a less steep route trek through beautiful woods. Turn right if you want a more vigorous climb. DO THE FULL CIRCUIT! It’s a whole other world up there.

Heads up that there is a grizzly bear caution for this trail. I myself hiked alone and didn’t encounter any problems with wildlife.

Was an easy hike, lots of areas to take good pictures. The trail outlined in this is pretty short so if you want to see more you can go different routes via trail networks(maps will be on the trail). Took a slightly longer route took me about 3.5 to 4 hours(including stops). Beautiful hike!!!

One of the five best hikes we've ever done. More variety of plant life and scenery than anywhere. The high meadow in the valley at the top is spectacular and something we've not seen anywhere else. Take a left at the fork for an easier uphill and some tremendous wildflower meadows.
