Trail starts at the bear warning sign in Lineham Recreational Area. well defined trail down to creek which has washed away. Stay left and take the visible trails you see along the embankment, this means no fording of the creek. Take the trail marked by the cairns and after 150m there is a trail to the left up a steep bank, take that and after a short climb you are back in the trees up to the ridge. Go to the high point and return the same way. Awesome Panoramic views and we did not see a single person WARNING lots of buffalo berry bushes and limited visibility in the trees, make lots of noise and carry bear spray

Get ready for a grind, steep incline the majority of the way, difficult to find the route up to the ridge, but turn left at both sets of cairns along the creek, second cairn takes u up a very steep path, 4 points of contact, but its short. Once you get to the top, just go straight, bushwhack through the woods and eventually you will come upon the path, go right onto it and take it all the way up to the peak. Beautiful views once you get out of the forest, well worth the effort. Make sure to bring bear spray and make lots of noise.

HikingOff trail

River crossing and bush whacking. No discernible trail for most of hike. Very quiet considering the nearby campground but otherwise the trail is not developed and doesn’t lead to anywhere worth your time.

A little bit route finding required where the trail was washed out by the flood, but otherwise straightforward

Good easy and gentle trail in a dry day. Would not recommend if rainy due to mud. We ran across LOTS of cattle and some horses as well.

HikingMuddy

Hiked up Foran Grade/Windy Point and Death Valley back. Got into a pickle when the trail was blocked by 40+ head of cattle and ended up having to bushwhack up the hill through the trees to keep a safe distance. Pretty muddy from the horses but gorgeous and easy once you get back to the Sandy McNabb trails area. Not a bad trail just not the best experience, I preferred Foran Grade/Windy point area.

HikingGreat!MuddyOver grown

Hiked up Foran Grade/Windy point and back Death valley in late July. Absolutely gorgeous views and very fragrant wild flowers (so bring your allergy meds) and if its a clear day you can spot Calgary from on top of the ridge. The trails get pretty muddy because of the horses and we did loose our way a bit in the meadows but over all fantastic hike!

Amazing panorama view at the top! Near the beginning, keep left along the creek (look for the cairns). There is a small crossing. Boots would be better for that as well as some steep terrain. There is a cairn where you turn left into the bush, then about 250 m and a steep left turn up the ridge. Then a long walk through a wooded area and it gets steep again after that, but persevere so you can get the amazing panorama view! About 5 hours up and down. Very quiet- we saw less than 10 people on the trail.

The trailhead is across Sheep River from where you park. You cannot get to it without a boat.

One of the best views in the Highwood area. As other reviewers have noted, route-finding at the creek 1km in is challenging. Stick to the left side (there are a few cairns). You DO NOT need to cross the major stream at any point! The terrain becomes more challenging in the final 500m, but is very doable.
