As someone who has hiked in New Zealand, Patagonia, Peru and more, this hike was disappointing. It’s all uphill with the excitement being the lake 5 miles in. Good workout but not very rewarding.

Once you reach the end - go on top of mountain to reach the glacier - fantastic view of lake and surroundings from there.

Trail is nice and in the shade. The lake is beautiful but unfortunately didn't get to see much because of the smoke. Better in the morning light.

Nicest road ever

Can anyone tell me if you need a park pass for this trail? Will delete this after I possibly get a response :) thank you!!

nice ride. not very peaceful as you have the traffic of the trans canada hey right there...

Beautiful hike even with the very smoky conditions - second half is a good climb, we wanted to do Harvey Pass but with the smoke and my asthma - it was decided to come back to add that challenge when conditions are better! Will definitely be back to do this again!!

An excellent hike although the first part is through the trees so really nothing to see but forest. Once you get up to Mirror Lake the views get better. Still a bit icy and slippery in the upper sections. Staff at the tea house were busy getting the place ready for opening in June, but even though they were not officially open they were selling tea and other goodies out of the back door. The tea was perfect after the hike up. Excellent views of the lake and mountains.

We made it as part of our Skoki loop hike from Fish creek parking lot, out and back in 13 hours and total of 43km, all in one day! For Merlin lake we exit the Skoki trail just before the lodge to the left at the Merlin lake sign. There is about a couple of km uphill initially where trail opens up it's view to Castilleja lake that receives all it's water from the underground current coming from Merlin lake that emerges just before the lake tip.
Trail then makes a traverse through skirt of wall of Jericho until approaching a few rocky switchbacks that leads to a lookout above Merlin lake. We returned via Merlin meadows trail all the way back to Skoki lodge. Very quite and peaceful lake with crystal clear water.

One of the most strenuous, beautiful, satisfying hikes/scrambles I have done to date. Arrived at sunshine around 8 and we took the gondola up to the base of sunshine villiage. Good thing as we would’ve never made it back before sundown. The mileage recorded here is off as the hike was actually under 50k but still it made for a very long day as we also scrambled up pharaoh peak at the 23 k Mark. I would highly recommend doing this over 2-3 days and not a single day as we did.

Awesome trail, made it about 50m from the summit, had to turn around due to weather but incredible views.

trail from Agnes Lake still has a lot of snow and disappears up the slope. tough climb right now, but q beautiful view of both Lake Louise and Lake Agnes, as well as the surrounding mountains.

Great little trail that ends at the teahouse.

We arrived at the Lake Louise parking lot by 7am and there was plenty of parking (Note-Lake Moraine lot was already full). Give yourself time to take lake photos because the light in the lake and surrounding mountains will be different when you get back from hike. We started the hike uphill by about 7:20 am and arrived at the tea house by about 8:40. We were with 3 kids ages 6, 7, and 11. They were more upset about being up at the crack of dawn than about the steep incline. There were quite a few groups passing us on the ascent. The trail is even and wide for the most part. There are areas of rocks and roots where my 7 year old tripped and skinned his elbow while running. Beware of horse poop on the 2nd half of the trail. There is not much of a view during most of the hike. Save some energy before the tea house to climb the steep 60 step staircase. We were lucky to grab one of the last tables in the tea house. The staff was busy unloading goods that were just unloaded from the helicopter. Once they were done unpacking more tables became available. A long line had already formed by 9am. The oolong tea and biscuits were delicious. BRING CASH (they accept US dollars). The views from the tea house are beautiful (tables are located inside and outside). Overall the hike was definitely worth waking up early for. The hike back down took our family of 5 one hour. We wanted to grab a shuttle to Lake Moraine but at $30 per person we opted to save our money and enjoy drinks on the patio at one of the Fairmont outdoor restaurants.
Tip: if you want to see Lake Louise and Lake Moraine park early (7am the latest) at LL. When ready take a free shuttle to Overflow parking lot where you can pay $15 per person for shuttle to Lake Moraine. If you take Shuttle from LL Fairmont it will cost $30. You can always chance it and try parking at Lake Moraine. But they only let cars in once 10 cars have exited. They refuse all cars from entering otherwise (not even to drop off people).

Easy. Nice views.

Amazing trail. Did it on a sunny July 11th. Very pleasant climb through a pine forest, followed by increasingly steep portions. The dragon's spine bears its name well: it's hard, but the surrounding views will give you all the motivation you could ever need. The summit has epic views 360 degrees, and a sheer cliff which is as beautiful as it is impressive. Very much recommended!

This is just a partial recording as my AllTrails stopped intermittently. Beautiful hike.

We reached the top in 3.5 hours. it's a hard hike if you are not fit. but if you are in a good condition you will be able to see the amazing view on Banff in few hours. Just be careful, you have to turn on the right just before the false summit. You have no sign on the trail and that's pretty sad. the way back into the forest is very boring. it will be challenging and you may be able to see some bears.

Epic trail with views to die for. For many it would be strenuous, not moderate, at least in parts. But if you can manage it then it's worth it - it's really just the unrelenting incline not any particular hazards. You won't regret it. Phenomenal.

Amazing views all along the trail! From the top you can see the lake louise and the mirror lake. Beautiful! The hike will take you along mirror lake and agnes lake, and then a steep ascension to the top of the beehive. I highly recommend this hike!

This was a back-to-back for me, after hiking Corey Pass the previous day, it was a tough hike up and down, and I imagine would be with fresh legs too, but worth it for the view at the top. The first part is a long, steady grade, basically an approach to the second part, which is where the real hike begins. Be prepared for leg burning/deep breathing steepness all the way up to the summit from there. The scramble after the trees was a challenge but sticking to solid sections of rock was helpful and riding the smaller loose rock on the way down was fun.

Nice accessible hike to a great lake. Great for beginners, the trail is a bit uninteresting along the way, but the lake is worth it.

Very nice to sit and enjoy a cup of tea at the top while taking in our beautiful surroundings. We got to the top at 8am and crowds weren't an issue at all yet, but it was pretty packed by the time we left. We continued up to the big beehive - even if you don't want to hike all the way up, I highly recommend walking around to the other side of the lake - the view looking back at the teahouse is really pretty

Unreal scenery.

Strenuous but amazing hike with great panoramic views, especially at the top. First hour of switchbacks is the toughest part followed by a lovely walk through the Larch Valley. Take your time going up the final section and you’ll be rewarded with jaw dropping views at the top of the pass.

Amazing reward for a hike that doesn’t take very long. Took about 2.5 hours to ascend at a brisk pace. 1.5 hours coming back. The views from the top are incredible.

We did the full loop plus hiking to Merlin lake in about 13 hours and headed out the same day. A very long day with variety of landscapes from dense woods, gorgeous creeks, wide open meadow, water falls and five spectacular lakes and last but not least, the historic Skoki lodge, located deep in the isolated Skoki valley. Completing this full loop in a single day will definitely need a good level of body strength however, the beauty of the area makes you forget about your tiredness. Be prepared for rapid weather change at any time. Overall this was a very pleasant hike and I highly recommend it at least once.

This is one of my favourite hikes in Banff.
Rockbound Lake is a must see..

It was super steep all the way up to the top, most of the part were uphill, loose rocks, hard to find the trail and very dangerous because it was super slippery and i got slippered many times! I won’t ever ever come back here again!
