Short and sweet hike with a super rewarding view at the end. The waterfall and creek are partially frozen since it's been a warm November. The snow and the sun melting the snow on the path (especially at the "steep terrain" signs) make it slippery and a little bit harder than expected (there were marks in the snow from of someone having slid off the edge today). I'd recommend proper footwear (someone did it in runners and he's regretting it) and if you're not too confident in your snow traversing skills, poles or grips.

The trail was not too busy on this Friday afternoon, and not too slippery. The canyon, the river and the waterfalls were incredibly beautiful.

AMAZING! Definitely a scramble at the top (easier to go up and than down! ;-)

Such a fun hike! So much to see along the way and the Teahouse is a joy to reach!

Such a cool hike! Not too strenuous and with the payoff of a tea house by the Victoria Glacier at the end! I made a video on YouTube of the hike, just search Maps With No Roads on YouTube if you want a look at what the trail is like.

Wonderful hike for the family! We had to walk up the road to access the canyon as the road is closed, saw 2 bears on the way in and 2 on the way out. I would strongly recommend carrying bear spray. Beautiful hike.

Pretty and easy trail. Quite crowded on the weekends so either go early or go late (slightly less people near sunset time)

While crampons would've helped, they weren't needed today. Some snowfall made for good traction over hard-packed snow and ice. My trail runners proved to be sufficient especially since it's a high traffic trail. Covid masks are highly recommended since the cat walk is very narrow and social distancing cannot be maintained. Frozen waterfalls along the way were amazing.

Beautiful hike in the winter. The falls are just starting to freeze up. It’s for sure less busy in the winter which is nice. Spikes are definitely recommended as it’s icy and slippery.

The Banff area changes dramatically, according to the warm & cold season. Took the Johnston Canyon trail in early March and enjoyed surreal ice formations & deep snow. Starts out very crowded but one attains that 'wilderness' feeling by advancing to Ink Pots. Snow shoes appropriate in breaking snow but our go-to gear proved to be crampons.

Halfway at the trail it was covered with deep snow and couldn’t get through so we had to turn around unfortunately.
