Short and sweet hike with a super rewarding view at the end. The waterfall and creek are partially frozen since it's been a warm November. The snow and the sun melting the snow on the path (especially at the "steep terrain" signs) make it slippery and a little bit harder than expected (there were marks in the snow from of someone having slid off the edge today). I'd recommend proper footwear (someone did it in runners and he's regretting it) and if you're not too confident in your snow traversing skills, poles or grips.

Wasn’t able to follow this map as it wanted you to go across the stream to follow it properly. However nice easy trail with some decent views

11/15/20- first of all, the road isn’t closed. I liked how quiet this hike is. The moose meadows part had absolutely no one there which was great. The trail is wide so passing would be easy if others were there. The views are super minimal. Nothing special for most of the hike, but as always being out in nature is nice. You don’t really fee the incline and I found it quite easy. The ink pots were just ok. It was a nice spot to be out in nature but I would pick something else next time. There are comparable length/elevation in the lake minnewanka area that are more scenic and enjoyable than this hike.

11/27/20- great trail. The snow was packed down and I wore cleats almost the whole time, even though some spots were rocky. It was VERY windy and it looked like there were new downed trees across the path, which makes for a fun challenge! Very very pretty hike. I started at 930am and I was the only car in the lot. I saw 3 other groups the whole day. I didn’t make it all the way to the campsite because it got a little boring and there where too many exposed rocks and I was tired of taking off and putting on my spikes. I’ll come back and run it this winter for sure. It had spectacular views almost the whole time. There wasn’t too much snow and the Lake wasn’t frozen. I clocked in 10km and anyone would be able to do that much of the trail. It’s too bad dogs can’t use the trail in the summer time because I would have loved to come back and camp at the campsite.

The trail was not too busy on this Friday afternoon, and not too slippery. The canyon, the river and the waterfalls were incredibly beautiful.

Lake Louise is gorgeous! It can get very crowded due to the hotel — but you MUST hike around and in the back of the lake. That’s where the real magic is :-)

Such a cool hike! Not too strenuous and with the payoff of a tea house by the Victoria Glacier at the end! I made a video on YouTube of the hike, just search Maps With No Roads on YouTube if you want a look at what the trail is like.

This was an absolutely beautiful hike! The trail was in good shape and a little easier to manage than I anticipated. Definitely recommend for a winter day trip!

Wonderful hike for the family! We had to walk up the road to access the canyon as the road is closed, saw 2 bears on the way in and 2 on the way out. I would strongly recommend carrying bear spray. Beautiful hike.

Pretty and easy trail. Quite crowded on the weekends so either go early or go late (slightly less people near sunset time)

Trail Completed: October 2020 We were in the Lake Louise area and decided to try to get into Moraine Lake, and succeeded. On a normal day, I'd probably have gone and done Consolation Lakes or maybe even Larch Valley. But it was a cold and rainy day and stuck to this shorter alternative. Even with clouds covering the mountains, the lake had a gorgeous blue color. Some of the bridges had big puddles, which had to be avoided. Part of the trail also seemed washed away, but the trail was wide enough so that wasn't a problem. We completed about 75% of the trail because it started snowing. Couple problems, but 5 starts because of the beauty.

Hiking through the forest with only the sounds of your feet on the snow. it doesn't get better than that in the winter. The trail has several downed trees that you have to either step over or around. A moderate amount of elevation gained until the descent to the meadow where the ink pots are. Beautiful views with the sound of running streams await.

The road to parking lot is open. We had beautiful weather. Trail from parking lot to where it joins Johnson Creek is snowy, passable but not as packed as rest of trail. Ink pots never disappoint!
