Description

Ilha Grande State Park is located in Ilha Grande, municipality of Angra dos Reis in Rio de Janeiro. Visitors can enjoy many outdoor activities such as walks, hikes, climbing and swimming. The access to the park is made by boats, departing daily from Mangaratiba, Conceição de Jacareí or Angra dos Reis, bound for Vila do Abraão, a small urban center located on the northeast coast of the island, where the park headquarters is located.

Round trip hike from Abraao to Lopes Mendes beach, about two hours each way. The trail is marked "T10" and starts right at the end of the main city beach. Don't be mistaken by the trash cans here, that's the starting point also leading to Abraaozinho, a small nearby beach. The trail goes through the forest and can be demanding for those - actually many - who wears flip-flops for the terrain is at times steep and can be slippery even without recent rains. The trail touches the beaches of Das Palmas and Do Pouso, the latter is the least appalling but it's where boat rides take tourists to and from Abraao. An option is to step on a boat - fare unknown, probably around 15 Reais - to return. The wonderful beach of Lopes Mendes has fine white sand and can't be missed when on Ilha Grande.Show more

This hike offers many attractions along the way like: gigantic fig trees, natural pools and mangroves. Between Praia do Bananal and Praia de Passaterra the climb is very bearable and you will have spectacular views of the immense Bay of Ilha Grande.
