Length: 56.8 mi • Est. Multi-day
The Stubaier Höhenweg long-distance hiking trail leads over 5,000 vertical meters and 8 huts at almost 90 kilometers. It goes around the Staubaier valley on one of the most beautiful but demanding high altitude hiking trails in the Eastern Alps. The hike is divided into 7 stages, but can be arranged as you wish. The absolute highlight of the route are the many glaciers between Dresdner and Bremer Hütte. The route is classified as a black mountain path and leads through alpine terrain. Endurance, sure-footedness, the right equipment and a head for heights are basic requirements. It doesn't matter in which direction the high-altitude hiking trail goes. Both directions are possible. From each hut you can also descend into the valley and ascend again if you want to complete the long hike in stages.Show more

Both huts are managed and the tour can also be done in the other direction. The Franz-Senn-Hütte is located at 2147m and is the largest and one of the most modern in the Innsbruck section of the Austrian Alpine Club. It is an ideal starting point for further hikes, mountain tours or ski mountaineering tours. The Starkenburger Hut is at 2237m, and wonderful tours can also be started from here.Show more

Between Lüsens and the Postdamer Hütte there is the Hochgrafjöchl, a hill that requires a good level of fitness to climb Lüsens. The end of the route to the Postdamerhütte is a very pleasant descent.Show more
