Backpacking

Great trail. I chose this for my first walk in camp as I thought 3.6km would be easy. I had no idea how much harder a 12kg pack would make it was tough going but so worth the effort an amazing spot to have all to yourself for the night. Hour and a half in an hour and ten out. Will definitely do again

Clear well worn path. A few hills, took 1.5hrs each way with a hot grumpy 9yo but was all worth it for the fantastic swim in the waterhole and rock hopping. Will definitely be back again! A great day trip for a picnic and a swim.

It was more challenging than I thought it would be. Consider it on the harder side of moderate. There are much prettier walks out there. Didn’t quite make it to the end though.

Nice walk, track is pretty well defined and easy to navigate. We didn't jump in the water but felt refreshing.

Started good. Got step. Nice razor back. Drop into Egan creek. Up to west peak. Chimney very difficult and scary. Made it. A bit dark getting to Rum Jungle. Long day. Both of us buggered but glad to be here safe and sound.

Epic! Heads up a very steep ridge the back down to the gorge. Lots of rock hopping from the portals to the gorge. The gorge is lovely and fresh to swim in.

very enjoyable walk. on the way back from the lower portals we opted to walk instead along the water and jumped from rock to rock.

Great walk with few ups and downs and the lower portals are truely marvelous for a picnic or swim in the warmer months.

This is a great trail in a beautiful part of the world. Getting to the portals at the end is definitely worth it. There is a small cave at the end you’ll need to climb through to get to the portals. Otherwise you’ll have to scramble over the rocks. It’s quite a hilly walk with very little shade. I’m glad I did it in June as the weather was cooler. The track itself was washed out and at some points very undefined. Look out for marker ribbons and if all else fails follow the private property line fence. The bush is still recovering from the bushfires. Otherwise the hike was absolutely amazing! It took my family 2 hrs to walk one way. Allow for 2hrs to walk back before dark.

This trail was certainly a challenge. Only do it if you have advanced navigation skills. After the first mountain the second mountain is a nearly vertical scramble with no tracks. Still totally worth it though. Nearly all the trails are grown over or wrecked from the fires. ALSO*** the distance listed on this hike is HIGHLY inaccurate. The first part of the map shows a large curve, once you get around the curb that’s 7 kilometres per my tracker app and that’s hardly the beginning. Mount maroon alone is 4 km therefore the middle section (the actual traverse) adds tons more. Be prepared to turn around or camp!
