Very challenging and rewarding climb! Started at around 7am, an hour for lunch at the summit and was off the mountain at 3pm. Give yourself plenty of time. Started with the South East Ridge summit to begin with and then took Peasants Ridge back down. Definitely would not recommend beginners doing this route, take Peasants ridge up and back for an easier climb.

Hiking

Great walk with few ups and downs and the lower portals are truely marvelous for a picnic or swim in the warmer months.

This is an incredible hike/climb. Due to rain, photo detours, summit lunch and deep breath moments, this trail took us 9 hours. Start as early as possible, go in a group, wear fingerless gloves, a rope helps and take plenty of food and water. I downloaded the alltrails map which really helped. We clocked 16kms but the distance really means nothing. It’s the climbing that gets you.

This is a great trail in a beautiful part of the world. Getting to the portals at the end is definitely worth it. There is a small cave at the end you’ll need to climb through to get to the portals. Otherwise you’ll have to scramble over the rocks. It’s quite a hilly walk with very little shade. I’m glad I did it in June as the weather was cooler. The track itself was washed out and at some points very undefined. Look out for marker ribbons and if all else fails follow the private property line fence. The bush is still recovering from the bushfires. Otherwise the hike was absolutely amazing! It took my family 2 hrs to walk one way. Allow for 2hrs to walk back before dark.

Great walk with rock scrambles and exposed sections as others have described. You need to be good with heights. The tack is not that obvious in places when you come steep rock sections and there are no markers like the South Ridge. Had to do some exploring and climbing to work out we were actually on the track. The trail is marked on the map correctly for GPS location, but the contour lines near the the top are wrong somehow. I was expecting a hard steep traverse of a cliff but it was a gentle climb up a ridge and easy.

A big fire has destroyed a lot of the lush green foliage but it’s still wonderful and you can see it will slowly grow back. The water is very refreshing if you’re keen for a dip.

Great route with lots of variety and some pretty tricky exposed scrambling/rock climbing. I started a bit late so I had to keep moving so as not to get caught in the dark. Did it in about 5 1/2 hours. Next time I’ll give myself more time to enjoy the fantastic views. There are temporary markers due to the fires.

This trail was certainly a challenge. Only do it if you have advanced navigation skills. After the first mountain the second mountain is a nearly vertical scramble with no tracks. Still totally worth it though. Nearly all the trails are grown over or wrecked from the fires. ALSO*** the distance listed on this hike is HIGHLY inaccurate. The first part of the map shows a large curve, once you get around the curb that’s 7 kilometres per my tracker app and that’s hardly the beginning. Mount maroon alone is 4 km therefore the middle section (the actual traverse) adds tons more. Be prepared to turn around or camp!
