Length: 6.4 mi • Est. 5 h 5 m
This trail offers a variety of different terrains, a lush forest, waterfalls, and some spectacular views. You will also have to cross a stream. Along the way you will find a colorful Refugio Lopez (a classic South American mountain refuge). You can make arrangements to stay the night there. Before you reach the summit, you will also find La Hoya (the pit), a small mountain lake. From here, the trail can get a bit more serious and steep.Show more

Such an incredible hike which offers panoramic views of the lakes around Bariloche and tremendous old forests. It is an extremely popular option departing from Bariloche, and hikers can also take one of the ski gondolas which still run in summer. From there, there is an option of either taking a shortcut that requires some strenuous bouldering, or a longer but more relaxed route through a forest. Refugio Frey is well equipped with comfortable beds and good facilities, although camping right beside the lake is an option too. Show more
#3 - Cerro Tronador Summit Trail
Nahuel Huapi National Park

Length: 18.6 mi • Est. Multi-day
Note: The Argentine side risks becoming no longer accessible due to increasingly warm weather in the region destabilizing the glaciers. Tronador is located along the border between Argentina and Chile near the city of Bariloche, in the southern Andes. There are two refugees on Tronador, but you also can camp outside the refugee for free. There are good places to put you tent, and the water is good. Show more

Tour of approximately 3 days of trekking, accompanied by Patagonian landscapes and quite varied terrain. From Villa Cerro Catedral there is a moderate ascent to Refugio Frey and Aguja Frey, then the path gets much more difficult on the section to Refugio San Martin / Refugio Jakob that is in front of Laguna Jakob. For the last section, you continue with a downward slope following the Casa de Piedra stream bordering Cerro Tres Reyes until finally reaching Playa del Viento beach in Lake Moreno.Show more

Beautiful hike in the Bariloche area. You can take a taxi from the center of the city but there are options to get there by bus. Trailhead is easy to locate. The first 5 miles are pretty laid back, with very gradual elevation gain. Most of that part is along the Goye river. The last 1.5 miles of ascent to Laguna Negra are pretty steep but very doable. The view of the lake and the surrounding mountains is amazing and worth the effort. Coming down is a challenge as well but once you clear the steep slope it is an easy stroll back to the starting point. If you finish early enough you can grab some good beer at Cerveceria Berlina, a short stroll from the trailhead in Colonia Suiza.Show more
