This is a relatively short hike up from Flåm that rewards you with a relaxing waterfall and fantastic views.

We did the hike from Osterbo (where we stayed overnight) to Vassbygli in July with my husband and two teenage girls. The weather was dry so we chose a bit more difficult route via Bjornstigen. The views from there were impressive - I highly recommend - but the descent is steep assisted by metal wires so it would be challenging if the rocks were wet and slippery. The river and the waterfalls are very beautiful. We returned to Osterbo by local bus. There were many hikers so we did not fit to the first bus but had to waite for almost an hour for an extra bus. We made the hike via Bjornstigen in 5 hours but had to waite for bus for two hours. Luckily there is a kiosk at the bus stop in Vassbygli where you can buy drinks and snacks and even have a shower.

Was a nice hike partly under the trees and partly in the sun.

Obsoletely worth of your 4-5 hours to hike to the top and enjoy the beauty of the fjords and glaciers!

Views are incredible. Water in the valley, gorgeous. Mostly very well marked. Rocky trails, rocks of every size on nearly every section of trail. lots of hiking down that you give back going up again. I am 57 year old female with some knee issues so down can be harder for me. The hike was very challenging but worth it. Total time 7 hours to cover 19 km. Not 8.5 miles by the way.

This hike takes you back to the late 19th century and early 20th century when agriculture was still highly active in this strenuous mountainous terrain. Many of the Norwegian families that operated these farms fled to North America for an easier life. However, the Sinjarheim farm is still in operation by a local university. This hike allows you to experience this history along with breathtaking views. You will see waterfalls, cliffs, caves, and more.

Absolutely STUNNING views everywhere you look! The first overlook has great views of the Sognefjorden but during the beginning of the hike there are a few great overlooks into the Esefjorden. At the very top of the trail, once you reach the wooden sign that says "Raudmelen" and points to other trails, there is a small trail to the right which ends at a bench overlooking the Esefjorden. There are amazing views of the glacier and valleys surrounding the fjord and I was lucky enough to see a double rainbow! (This also meant that I was in a rainstorm for a bit). One of the prettiest hikes I've done in Norway - so happy a local recommended this hike to me!
