Great hike. Challenging at times, good mix of rock steps, steep slabs, easy dirt paths, wish there were more steep scrambles. The troll tongue is cool but the views leadong up to it are just as great! Negative would be the road switchbacks up to the trail head get old fast.

I considered going at the trail alone but quickly changed my mind after speaking with locals. I hired a guide and was very happy I did. We had only 8.5 hours of daylight and 10 hours to hike, so the dark 1.5 hours was put on the back end hiking from P3 to P2. The trail was icy pretty much everywhere at higher elevation, which you reach after the first km of the hike (if you go up the stone stairs instead of the road from P2 to P3). Do not go alone at this time of year! One slip on a rock and you could end up needing rescue, and we all slipped multiple time, but caught ourselves each time.

Great day! Starting out at 06:00 from P2, a good decision. A moonlit sky lit up the asphalt road leading to the main trailhead; no need for a headlamp! Leaving at this time was early enough to beat the rush to the tongue (minus a few overnight campers), but not too early to lose sleep. The weather forecast was spot on too! Beautiful and sunny all day! Layering is a must. And be prepared for a cold wind on various parts of the trail. A little muddy at times, but much better than slippery rocks with lingering ice. Recommend good footwear for the reverse terrain. A great hike with a ton of views for picture taking!

Today was my second time in this trial. Last year I went in the winter and today was an amazing experience to walk the whole trial with no snow. Beautiful view and a challenger path.

Amazingly beautiful hike. Highly recommend hiking past trolltunga and camping for a night, this will allow you to get some amazing pictures before/after the daytime crowds. Also, the sunset is unreal over the water.

Absolutely incredible hike - simply one of the best ever. We earlier debated not doing it because of the forecast (rain 15-25mm), but decided we had to. The old trail is now gone and there is a 4km asphalt road that leads between P2 and P3. It’s actually not that difficult and took us only about 1-hr to climb. Once at the top, the trail levels out and after a couple of kilometres increases in elevation again. It then again levels out all the way to the incredible Trolltunga viewpoint overlooking the lake below. From KP 1-11 it rained quite a lot and was in general also very wet from rain runoff, so definitely bring multiple layers and waterproof jacket/pants. But from KP 11-14, the clouds lifted and the sun came out just in time for us to arrive at the viewpoint - made for some pretty amazing views and photos. Very long hike but so, so worth it.

Amazing hike! like the other reviewers, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. We did this hike on Thursday and started at 6:45am, got to the viewpoint sometime before 11. We were one of the only ppl that started from P2 parking lot. couldn't find the actual trailhead so hiked up the steep paved road to the P3 trail entrance. Everyone that started at P3 was not in good shape and we ended up passing them all at km 6-7. Raining on and off and pretty hard in places so rain coat, rain pants and gloves pretty essential. There were a lot of ppl that were unprepared, had no backpacks and we never saw them making it to the end nor passing them on our way back. The last 4 km is super windy so be prepared that you can't stop long for lunch. As we were one of the first ppl to arrive at the viewpoint we only had a 3 minute wait for the photo but the line got longer once we left. Lots of rocks that can be slippery, and muddy in areas. Make sure you go to the bathroom in P2 as there are no other facilities on the trail!

I would recommend this trail for anyone that wants to see stunning views of nature. Be prepared to experience all the 4 seasons even when hiking in the summer, and whatever happens it is still worth it.

one of the best hikes I've done, beautiful! Backpacked up and down from P3 and camped at around 1 km from the actual Troltunga point.

Beautiful landscape. We hiked at 6:45am and made it to the spot by 10. It was a 15 minute wait at that point but probably over an hour by the time we left at noon. The initial ascent is rough but once you get pas t the pass, the trail is fairly easy. Lots of places for water. No WCs. Heavily trafficked so expect folks all around you the entire time.

Amazing views!! Not nearly as hard as I had anticipated. Any trail this heavily trafficked should not be rated as hard. Bridges and ropes everywhere, full time trail staff tending to the path etc. About 30 minute wait for a photo at the end however, and that was in shoulder season.

I still recommend this hike for the final view. Just know going in that there is a substantial cost to park (600 kroner) and if you don't pay for the shuttle up you will be walking an asphalt track up to the trail head. The hike in general is a bit boring, but the end shot is incredible. There are tons of people camping overnight on the trail, so don't think this will get you "the rock" to yourself.

Before you can do the trial, it cost you 7500 kr (75 euro's) for parking and a shuttle. Therefor the hike is now only 400 meter elevation and 20k out and back. They removed the first 4k of the track (forest part) and replaced it with a brandnew asphalt road for the shuttle. The hike is nice but compared with a few years ago way to crowdy! The last years (mainly by the famous instagram shot.. sadly) the hike became an attraction, with a >1 hour line for the picture at the end. Hike itself is nice but start early to avoid a lot of tourists. At the moment there are way better hikes closeby!

Challenging hike threw us everything from snow, wind, rain, mud, waterfalls. The stairs at the beginning were tough to climb and scale because the stones are different sizes. The hike is well-marked and easy to follow, but long. Breathtaking views throughout of the fjord and well worth the wait at the end!

Trail is in good shape, go there.. Good hike not too hard, but long. Great variation of up/down Hill. Views are amazing, possible to camp along the trails. Waited in line 1 hour for the photo on the trolltunga cliff.

If you do not do the first 4 km P2 parking P3, rather affordable hike apart from the first big climb in the first few kilometers that hurts legs to the go back! No particular difficulty

This is a challenging hike, especially given the length and the Nepalese Sherpa stairs that ascends nearly 1300 ft in such a short distance. With this said and out of the way, my husband and I were so pleased we saved this hike for last. The challenge made the view and experience completly worth it!
