This hike was absolutely GORGEOUS. Very rewarding after reaching the top. We started at the bottom of the ski lift and only made it about halfway towards the end before we realized the sun was going to set soon so we hiked back down. Would’ve been nice to hike it all the way but this hike is definitely not for the faint hearted! An adventurous hike but dangerous when there’s snow on the top and no proper snow shoes for grip (the snow was kinda icy so there were some slippery moments which were sketchy!). This hike is not appropriate for beginners or someone with no hiking experience however if you’re up for a little bit of scramble then this hike is for you! We had to use our hands a little to keep balance at some parts. Definitely worth the effort and the slight scare when we lost the trail and thought we might be stuck (LOL) but y’all believe me when I say this, I wouldn’t classify this hike as a moderate hike. Maybe not quite difficult but definitely a little more physically demanding then just a moderate hike. Anyways, great hike and would love to do it again maybe in the warmer seasons (we went in mid October).

I would highly recommend this trail to anybody who likes low level walking around a 300m ascent up a river, although at this time of year (oct onwards) you need to be careful on a few of the river crossings as can be slippery when icy. Wooded areas with the chance to spot foxes, eagles or reindeer and a nice suprise when you get to the end of the trail.

The steps created by the Sherpas a few years ago were a joy to climb. 1003 in total took us around 30 mins to climb to the top, but tremendous views from the top and an option to continue to the summit

From the half way to the end it’s more climbing than hiking, try to catch hiking stiks they will help while going down. Also be carefull with the weather when departing : While I was climbing the weather was clear but some snow started to fall on the top. When arrived there it was covered in white and very sliperry...

We only went up a few hundred meters. The trail appears to be very challenging. Wish we had more time to explore

foggy. only view was near Gjendebåten. we took the ferry. on a foggy day it might be best to just start at Gjendebåten and turn around when it gets foggy

If you start on the left you have a climb that includes 1200 steps. We have done it at the end of September and from the highest part to the descent we have had snow and ice, so you have to go carefully and well equipped for the cold.

I tried this hike back in August 2016. It was cold and started snowing as we climbed up. My partner and I started around 10 am and we got to the point where you have to scramble by pulling yourself up. Unfortunately, my partner felt unsafe due to the fear of height (nothing dangerous from a guy’s point of view) and we were forced to return. I knew we were just a little bit away from the plateau. Will visit Norway to try it again with the right partner or just on my own.

Great day! Starting out at 06:00 from P2, a good decision. A moonlit sky lit up the asphalt road leading to the main trailhead; no need for a headlamp! Leaving at this time was early enough to beat the rush to the tongue (minus a few overnight campers), but not too early to lose sleep. The weather forecast was spot on too! Beautiful and sunny all day! Layering is a must. And be prepared for a cold wind on various parts of the trail. A little muddy at times, but much better than slippery rocks with lingering ice. Recommend good footwear for the reverse terrain. A great hike with a ton of views for picture taking!
