This is on the harder side of moderate. I found this a bit of a slog. Perhaps it was the post Christmas Turkey belly. Those two extra inclines (Meelmore and Meelbeg) aren’t a walk in the park. Bring sticks too, I normally leave them behind and did on this day too but I regretted it after 2 slips on the grassy parts. That being said, it’s a cracking hike with stunning scenery.

Great route. Took approximately 4.5 hours. Trail on ascent is poorly defined but otherwise good trail. Parking at trail head can get busy.

Loved this trail. my first time on the mournes and as a novice / beginner hiker, I didn't find it too challenging - I wasn't even wearing proper hiking attire (trainers and sweats but I wouldn't recommend this). had to take a few stops every now and then but it was manageable. Lots of different terrains from the forest to the open space, rocks, etc. Even sheep! The last part was definitely the hardest and unfortunately a cloud came in and covered everything, so we couldn't enjoy the final view at the top. However it was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the views on our way up before we got to the top where the cloud was sitting. Would love to do it again and hopefully not have a cloud ruin it!

Very muddy and foggy, easy to lose bearings at peak

Fantastic walk, if your doing it in January definitely being hat and gloves because it's cold at the top. We took the wrong path slightly, so when you go over the wall there is stairs to your right, go up them and once over walk directly up keep the wall to your right and you'll be grand. Amazing views

I have done 5 session of the mourne way out of 6. I really enjoyed it walking along these trails.

If you are looking for a very easy climb with young children etc, while still getting magnificent views, this is for you. The whole climb is just like tarmacced like a road and I was surrounded by very chillaxed sheep (hence no dogs ). But if you want a slightly more challenging, stimulating trail up a mountain among wilderness, go over to the other Mourne mountains, like Slieve Donard or the Brandy Pad Trail. However, I will say that you go over the stile at the end at the top, it's very much worth the visit.
