ott to slieveloughshannagh to meelbeg to Meelmore and neck via lateral path

I would rate is an easy. kid and dog friendly. nice walk.

Love this hike. Tough enough in parts but well worth it for the views alone.

Tough but worth it. Very cloudy day so not once could we see the summit during the ascent until it was metres in front of us. Despite the poor visibility, the scenery that we could still make out was raw and breathtaking. The path along the river is kind, along the quarry is nonexistent and along the mourne wall is steep. We were rewarded with snow at the top which acted as a perfect cooler for our celebratory beers. Great day out

Great walk done with 2 small dogs! Went up in March still cold and not much visibility at the top but a lovely walk nonetheless!

Decent trail with easy walking paths (dirt road really) until the base of the steepest accent. Be prepared for wind and a steep final kilometer. When you hit the wall note that you can walk on either side to protect you from the wind. Path from trailhead is easier than trail from Newcastle. Also, trail from Newcastle side is mostly granite cobbles and we found it to be harsh to walk on. Check weather before climb as the peak is often shrouded in fog.

Brought my 16yo sister and two dogs- as a novice hiker I was surprised by how strenuous some parts were (I did do the route in reverse- so perhaps that explains it) Not a complaint- merely a heads up to prospective walkers! Beautiful views, took us 5 hours to complete the loop. Will return :)

Excellent loop. Good mix of difficult steep terrain and flat trails. Was able to do the entire thing in one (wet and windy) day with a full pack (skipped the devil's coach road as it was gusting to 60/70 up there - didn't fancy getting blown down it!) . I'd recommend following the Mourne wall to the south side of Rocky mountain before striking West along the edge of Annalong wood - bushwhacking over the hillocks between Rocky and Annalong river is tough going. Also be aware that on days when the river is flowing fast, it may be difficult to find a good spot to cross. Prepare to get your feet wet!

I did this today (2-24-19), coming in from Utah with a friend. This trail was jaw-dropping, I was awestruck by the beauty the entire way. It is a pretty easy hike unless you are not used to hiking and then it could be challenging. It was foggy when we went, which created a superb ambience. I couldn't recommend this one more. Wear warm clothes as it gets very windy

This trail is simply amazing, but for an added bonus, after waking on day 2 in Annalong Valley, you have the option to trek towards Carrick little car park and then turn back toward Slieve Binnian. On a clear day, the views from Binnian are breathtaking, overlooking the famous Silent Valley reservoir and Ben Crom damn wall and reservoir.

brilliant day, great hike

Great view at the top. Steep climb for the last 30 minutes of summit.

Amazing views from the top. Can’t believe this trail is almost on our door step. Will definitely be making the short trip to do it again.

started at Donard car park and cut through the forest . the trail is well marked out . It's climb all the way on rocks and stones. up onto steps to get to the saddle and a beautiful stone wall built in 1910 . the climb to the summit is very tough on the legs . hard gradient . coming down is a bit slow at summit . the rest is doddle

Great hike. Weather conditions were not favorable but still enjoyed none the less. Beautiful scenery and good challenge.

Went on this hike yesterday and took a 9 and 10yr old. We left out the summits and headed straight to the saddle for spectacular views. The children’s parents did this same hike years ago as children too and everyone loved it. It’s hard going at parts but so enjoyable. Fabulous day out!

Really beautiful trail with fantastic views at the summit

I hiked this exact map yesterday and must say, it isn’t as easy as made out. Although when at the top of the summit it is spectacular

I agree its not that easy but well worth it...

Brilliant trail!

Great walk very sore on the legs but worth it glad I done it

Walked this with my grandson had a fantastic day it takes a lot out of you but it was worth it

My favourite hike in the whole of Ireland. Differing terrain on the way up consiting of forestry ,stone paths leading up to the great wall ...of Ireland ...then the ascent to the summit ...breathtaking sea views on a clear day ... highly recommend it
