Was wet, needed hiking boots as was not suitable for walking shoes. shipwreck was fun for the kids to see.

Great easy walking, picturesque bush, river and waterfall

Like walk in the park easy peasy

Love taking my son around in his front pack! Such a shame they have stairs now but such a beautiful view the whole way around!

I only hiked down after returning from the skyline. A decent hike for sure. It took about an hour to get down

It’s hard but I highly recommend that. The view is amazing, unforgettable!!!

Amazing views, a bit muddy in winter even on a sunny day... however TOTALLY worth it!

We did this in 2017 and loved it - very lucky to have clear weather to enjoy the forests, lakes and waterfalls, incredibly beautiful and a good challenging hike

Absolutely stunning vistas, we were incredibly lucky with the weather - 3 bluebird days to enjoy incredible scenery. A good challenging hike

A great challenging hill climb with amazing views. Loved the faerie grove

Part of Te Araroa, this section is known as the Richmond Trail. Nice views over Lake Tekapo. Best tramped south to north to fully enjoy the views of the mountains.

Love this track! Well maintained, beautiful views and lots of lovely native bush and birds. Due to the number of stairs I would rate it as moderate, not easy.

Awesome walk. As noted in other reviews check the tides as you come off the track onto otarawairere beach and access can be blocked by the tides. Definitely take your camera.

Lovely place. Track steep in places but the falls are worth it. Awesome photoshoot spot

Love taking the kids around the base track. Lovely views and family friendly

A short trail along an exceptionally tumultuous river and numerous waterfalls. People can frequently be spotted in organised tours floating by in yellow rafts.

We have hiked to the Peach Cove hut each summer for the last three years. I’ve gotten progressively more unfit, so it’s gotten harder each time! But the track itself is great, in good condition and well maintained. We stay at the hut for a couple of nights so we are carrying our gear, food and water which makes it tough. It would be a much nicer walk without the packs! We love it and it’s a fantastic family holiday.

This is where the hobbits live. Lush and interesting. Such a beautiful climb. 3.5hrs total, with lots of pictures, at a steady pace. I would do this hike a hundred times over.

Amazing view during sunset

Easy walk to (near) the base of the glacier. The track is really well maintained and great to walk on. If you're only stopping by in Franz Josef thus is a good little out and back walk to do.

Walked the track in July (mid winter) starting in the darkness at 7am. The first 4ks up were fine, then the track became snow/ice covered which made progress slow going. Amazing views at the top, but the lookout point was very slippery (be careful if going up when icy).

6hours return.

One of the best hike I ever did. 6 hrs, took our time, long and hard but so worth it. Imagine walking on a Volcano, and feeling like you are on Mars! Bring layers, good shoes, lots of water and a lunch. You need shuttle service at end or another arrangement. This is a one way 20k ride. Enjoy!

This felt like a never-ending up up up. My plan was to take a short, relaxed walk about halfway up. But it was so marvelous, I had to keep going. Made it up and back in 3.5 hrs (jogging most of the way down). However, all I had to carry were my poles and light jacket. Water would have been a plus, but not essential. Only passed 5 people the whole time, all of varying fitness. YOU can do this! So very worth it.

Lucky with brilliant clear views on the way up. Knee high snow for about the last hour made for a lung-buster, but gorgeous, nonetheless. Probably took me 3hrs to the top with plenty of picture snapping. Made some coffee at the hut, then back down in about 2hrs. Low visibility on the way down, but plenty of my own tracks to follow, and fun snow tromping. Even if you only get to the top of the stairs section and don't go all the way to the hut--go for it. I think anyone could accomplish the stair part, if they take their time and just enjoy it.

Fantastic afternoon walk. If the weather is good the views are amazing looking down Lyttelton harbour. The track ends at Packhorse hut, you can use the hut and even stay the night if you plan to carry on walking.
