Good mountain bike track. Did this with a company that picked us up from the other side which was helpful.

An incredibly challenging hike that boasts views for days and a grand sense of accomplishment! You have the option of hiking up to the saddle or up to the summit. The saddle provides gorgeous views of Lake Wakatipu, and this is a good spot for new hikers to stop. Summit should be hiked with proper boots (for sturdy support). This trail is accessible from the gondola, though you can also catch it from Tiki Trail.

Well, if you want a challenging hike, you found it here! Due to the climate of this region, expect this trail to be very wet - several mud bogs to cross over, plus slippery roots and four creek crossings (with slippery rocks). You can see some amazing flora and fauna here, particularly birdlife. Give yourself plenty of time: the sign posted at the trailhead is full of lies (2 hours one way is optimistic). As much as it was a challenge, it was one of the most memorable hikes I've done. Bring spare socks to stay dry!

Beautiful springs. Easy walk.

Steep scree climb. Nice at top.

Great track. Would recommend climbing My Ngauruhoe for the views but this is a very tough climb! Bring gloves if you do to protect your hands from the rocks.

Beautiful! when you get to the top it will most likely be misted over, but still very cool. Def bring a rain coat and lots of deet.

My fav hike!! The huts are great and the scenery is to die for. Will def back to do this one. I started in reverse- Key summit to QT and really enjoyed it in this direction. I recommend poles. Very Rocky in some parts. Did in three days.

We did this as part of our Tongoriro Northern Circuit hike (takes 4-5 days). Very beautiful! Very tough day hike. There are people who turn back or just sit down off the trail waiting for their group to come back. Hard on the knees. Very busy trail!!! It's basically a line of people doing this thing.

Simply gorgeous! every beach is a dream and the camping is pretty good in most places. Kayaked part of it and hiked out the rest (towards takaka). Lots of tidal estuary crossings.

Volcanos, craters, tussock- what more could a girl ask for! such an amazing hike. We took our time and explored a bit so finished in 5 days. We started first with the Alpine crossing. This part is steep. very steep. I was also using my hands to walk I was at such an angle. Lots of rocks so be careful of your ankles and knees on this one. Did the optional Glacier lake on day five, but this is all scree and pretty steep. Worth it!!!

Spectacular views!! This is not for the faint of heart. You must be sure-footed and in shape as there are parts of the trail/ridge that is very steep on either side. Lots of bouldering. We went back down via Speargrass. Remember you must have tickets to stay at all the huts in NZ. You must get them BEFORE you plan on hiking or else it might be sold out. Also, a note to tourists- you're in NZ now 1) please be polite and respectful to others you're a guest here and should act accordingly 2) take your trash with you, don't litter on the trail or in the huts.
