If you have some extra time at the airport this is a really great walk along the coast. The directions made it seem farther away. It is not. Just go out past rental car lots, then long term parking. The trail starts at corner just across brick crosswalk and you are on Moa Point.

A really great hike up some fabulous hills on a well marked track - private property from the dome to the WW2 huts and sadly not much marking on the way down so we had to clamber down a waterfall with rocks and moss to get down to the red rocks - a great adventure though!

nice sunny day not much wind great view of the coast Sheep were quiet once we slowed down

Blustery, as can be expected, nice views and easy wayfinding on path

Had an excellent taste of NZ hiking. 1st time to Wellington, so we took the 30min train out to the park entrance. So many signs, clear maps, and well kept paths made it easy to find. There are many water crossings, so I threw on some water shoes and splashed up the creek instead of constantly crossing. The weather was lovely, cool, and overcast, so the water felt great! The waterfall at the end is small, but beautiful, and the hike showed us birds, animals, and plenty of different plant life.

go anti clockwise - gives you a short steep climb up the hill, but a great run down the other side.

Not too bad, can take good panoramic shots on a clear day. Best on a bike.

Matiu/Somes Island

Solid mix of easy and fairly sturdy climbs. Anticlimactic peak, very few vistas. Empty trails on McKerrow track is a bonus (Saturday midday hike for me).

I enjoyed this walk however currently the lookout over the dam is being replaced so is currently closed hoever the walk is very nice and virtually all shaded.

There is a river at the end of the trail, great for the kids to splash in after lunch.

Great views, not sure where the waterfall was though.

Started at 6am and had to tip toe past sleeping campers. A good climb and the track is wide and uncovered. It’s worth taking a detour up to Boulder Hill - an 11.3km round trip. The view is amazing, the rabbits are fat and the Fantail dance to the song of the Tui.

Super easy and flat ride would be excellent on a non windy day.

Enjoyable walk for the whole family

good track for the moderatley fit tramper. the gentle annie part is more well maintained.

I loved this walk glorious views my 9 year old daughter did it with me she was a bit scared at places but happy as to have finished it, some of the track can be a bit slippery with the gravel under your feet, and watch the rocks lol I pulled a ligament in my ankle but well worth the pain for the awesome views

Beautiful views we went at sunset time gorgeous as

Outstanding short walk. Great views of Kapiti Island and the coast.
