Very nice trail. Gave me quite a challenge! A personally liked the path up to fletchers bay better than the mountain bike trail which was quite up and down.

great and sometimes challenging bike trail. if you plan on biking, checkout Rhubarb Cafe up the road from the trailhead to rent a bike and get a snack.

very cool walk to do with kids. loved it.

very nice hike, the sun can tper a little strong on some parts of the trail so provide water and a hat

Nice run/ walk to explore with some good bridges and lots of cover if needed from the sun. Would do again if I had the time :)

Solid walk with lots of bird life, not as many river views as you'd expect from the name. Some sections are adjacent farmland or highways.

One of the best hikes I ever did in New Zealand. This trail resembles the Coromandel area perfectly! It shows everything: shore, forrest, stones and mountains, bushes, grassland and sheep, small streams and waterfalls, beaches and sand. I would recommend going quite early so that you can rest and enjoy at many places. Take enough water and a hat as there is a few areas without shelter from the trees. I would highly recommend doing the costal hike up (to Fletcher's Bay, 3h) and then the Mountain Bike trail down (2.5h). The last section up the grassy hill is very steep but don't loose hope. This makes it an at least intermediate track where you could use hiking poles. We went in spring and we met about 10 people throughout the whole trip.

Easy walk! Kid friendly and bikes allowed! Don’t need a torch as there is small lamps all the way threw the tunnel now.

I would recommend this loop, much better than just the coastal by the forest.

Bikers are friendly sharing the road :)

A beautiful easy walk / mountain bike track from Urchin Camp Site to the Pillars of the Earth swing bridge and return the same way.

lovely easy walk

Loved this walk. Was perfect for training for Peru.

Super easy trail suitable for all ages - a great taster of NZ bush & history. Easy return day trip from Auckland, Tauranga & surrounding areas.

Great short easy trial with beautiful views of river and forest. Need to do in conjunction with other trials if you want to do a longer ride.

There are a few errors in the description of this trail or else the map is wrong. I mountain biked the route shown on the map - mixture of sealed and unsealed roads and steep in parts. Not for road cyclists and a tough ++ mountain bike. Walkable but again shared roads so cars ++ closer to Raglan. Took me 5.5 hrs with a stop for lunch of 20 mins and multiple pictures taken. Hard work. Garmin had it at est 26 miles and burned 1400 kcals average speed around 7mph! I am wondering if perhaps there was a trail elsewhere but again I followed the map as is shown on here. beautiful views and to be honest I would do it again but give myself longer. I would say mountain bike or walk and the walk would be LONG.

Great, even glow worms in caves

Perfect trail for a day walk. The view from the top is stunning.

A long and quite monotonous walk that is much better suited to bikers than to walkers.

A lovely track. Maintain well. Lovely to cycle.

Top section of the Tongarira River trail down to the bridge and back up the east side doing the uphill portion last! Yikes! Beautiful sunny day, 60 deg F or so.

Great mountain bike ride broken into stages. The end nearest Cambridge is fun and doable for those confident but not super skilled on a mountain bike. Tried one of the stages near the dam but was too hard for me so turned around.

We did the loop through the tunnel! It was very cool, don't forget your torch, flash light

HARD - Not what I was really expecting. There was a lot of climbing involved. The track is very narrow. From the car park on Whaanga Road it took my 5 hours to get to the top. I did stop for about 20mins at the first look out and 3.5 hours to get from the top back to my car. I’ve put some photos in of the climbing and the view I got. I’m bloody glad I finished walk but am very tired and sore

Likely a great ride for mountain bikers, but sadly not a great walk for hikers due to the high number of high speed and non-track sharing bikers - very sad! Hey bikers if you can't see what's around the corner, please be prepared to stop ' thanks. The track its self is good and firm, and wanders it's way through regenerating bush above the lake. The lookout points were a little disappointing due to plant over growth blocking what would be great views. It's a long trek on foot so, take water and snacks and make a day of it. Oh, and take care on the tight corners, chances are you'll get a least one or two high speed surprises.

A great ride, and would rate it grade 3 because some people would not like the hills, which are not that bad but to some people they would be. If you want to arrange a vehicle at each end it may suit some people. Definitely worth the ride, or walk.

do the whole ride from Paeroa to Waihi and back. Track mostly follows an old gold mining rail line so is pretty flat. Very scenic with a couple of bridges across the river and a long tunnel to ride through.

A very scenic ride along the side of the lake. A couple of good climbs on the return to Arapuni but mostly a flat ride.
