This trail takes you from the carpark at the Huka Falls to the carpark at the Aratiatia Rapids, beside the dam. There are public bathrooms at both ends of the trail. The trail is partially through forest, beside some farms and over slightly rocky terrain. You are mostly walking over compacted dirt and gravel. It is mildly undulating with each hill climb lasting only a few hundred metres at the most. The release of the water from the Aratiatia dam, at regular intervals (10am, 12pm, 2pm in Apr - Sept; 10am, 12pm, 2pm & 4pm in Oct - Mar) is the spectacular highlight of this walk, so allow yourself plenty of time to arrive for this.
